So, your new bunny is likely very frightened and still is settling in to her new home. This is also her third home, and she may have had some traumatic experiences in her past homes (and perhaps was even re-homed due to cage aggression). If you’ve only had her three days and are already sweeping in her cage, I think its understandable that she…[Read more]

Are they on the heel or more along the other part of the foot?

I agree that since they are pink, it’s early on and not full on sores and is more likely a callus that you can keep monitoring.

The usual steps to take are to add extra soft fleece to her areas, especially areas where she tends to sit and rest a lot. Keeping the nails trimmed also…[Read more]

Hello! So I recently bought a second rabbit to hopefully bond to my soon to be neutered buck, they have not begun the process yet as I am waiting for his neuter for his hormones to clam down before bonding. My buck, Basil, is a sweet and shy bunny, he’s never been aggressive to me or my other pets. They’re both in my bedroom, they’re cages are…[Read more]

Rex rabbits are more prone to sore hocks. Since their fur is shorter, the padding on the hock (i.e., heel of the foot) can get worn down/thin much easier than a rabbit with “normal” fur. Other things outside floorin can contribute to sore hock development, including a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight, and too long nails:…[Read more]

    Hi,

I am worried that my bunny has developped sore hocks. I can’t quite get a picture since she doesn’t let me handle her much, but it looks like small pink bald spots on her hocks. They don’t look weepy or anything.  Is this normal ?? She is eating and running around normally (actually eating more than usual).

95% of her living space is…[Read more]

If she’s up again and munching hay, you don’t need to be crazy worried -but she must poop, or you should contact your vet again.

I think she purred out of pleasure when you pet her -a rabbit can chop its teeth out of pain, but if a bun is in that much pain, there will be other signs as well, such as sitting in a stiff upright position or actively…[Read more]

Before getting into thoughts, a general PSA that if your rabbit has not pooped or eaten in 12 hours, that is considered an emergency and she should go back to the vet ASAP. Also, even though vet offices are busy (especially now), don’t hesitate to call and report new symptoms/concerns that you may have as the provider who directly examined your…[Read more]

    Hello everyone. Been here for a few years lurking here & there, but never posted anything myself up until now. Apologies if I end up posting this in the wrong forum type/area… ;;

I have a house rabbit (Bun, female, spayed) who’s going to turn 5 come late May. Over the past few days she’s been having some problems– Suddenly deciding to not eat…[Read more]

Alright everyone, I just left for my vacation and I will be gone until Saturday afternoon. His pet sitter will keep an eye on him and let me know if there’s anything to be concerned about but I am an anxious bunny mom right now.

I’m not sure what digestive syrup is, can you share the ingredients?

Can you also share what your rabbit’s normal diet is in detail? Stasis can be symptom of improper diet or another medical issue.

If you currently feed rabbit pellets, you can grind them up and mix with water to form a paste that can be syringe fed. Coriander juice would help…[Read more]

The article Dana links to is very good, it’s helped me many times inte past.

Pain relief is key, as is hydration and syringe feeding pellet mush or critical care for herbivores – once you know there’s no gastrointenstinal  blockage. A vet can prescribe meloxicam or buprenorphine for pain and a gut stimulant (metoclopramide and or ranitidine).

Yes she is munching on hay. But I gave her CC in the afternoon as she tends to sleep this time so i wanted to give it to her.
<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>She always come looking to me for a pellet but I don’t want to give her.</p>
I just thought I should wait with the greens, until the poops are normal but I think I will try to give her one…[Read more]

    Hi DanaNM.

I have given him vitamin supplements syrup for 5 days (as doc suggested).

I have been given him a digestive syrup for now 8 days (as doc suggested).

We have been trying to syringe feed coriander juice. We have tried many veggies with him, but coriander was the only veggie he would have in some quantity on a regular basis.

    I will…[Read more]

That sounds like a good session! Bonding is a two-way process, so both need to be comfortable with each other for there to be a bond. Sometimes one bunny being very playful can be a form of dominance display, like “look how much i don’t care about you”. But not fighting is great.

An hour is still pretty short, and it’s a good strategy to repeat…[Read more]
