@lynne8832 This is something I had never considered, so I did a little quick googling. I found one study on MRSA in rabbits in meat rabbit farms (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7231059/). A lot of rabbits were carriers of MRSA, and in the conclusion the authors state:
“In this study, the rate of MRSA strains found infecting…[Read more]

That sounds really positive! They are definitely making progress!
If you’re referring to the cage area that’s the bonding area, yes I usually clean the area in between so all the hay is fresh and the area smells more neutral. Plus once the sessions start getting longer the area will definitely need cleaning. :p

Hi DanaNM.
Our bun has been with us for ~4 years. I used to try giving him green grass. No luck. He nibbles at best.
I have bought good quality timothy hay for him several times. He doesnot touch them.
I have tried other things like bamboo leaves (it is also a grass and our guinea pigs loved them). Does not touch them.
So I have given up.
He…[Read more]

Grooming and eating are really great, I’m so happy to hear she’s doing better, even if not out of the woods yet!

Update:
I took your advice, Dana, and used as bigger bowl. I also set a jar of water in there so they couldn’t sit in the bowl. I also set it in the warmest part of the hutch. I left them at 8pm. and when I came back at 11pm. it was not frozen. When my dad got up to go to work at 2:30 a.m., the bog bowl was frozen, but he melted the ice in…[Read more]

That’s wonderful! I think their poop will get back to normal within 1-2 week, if not sooner!

That makes sense, thank you! Do you know if it is documented if humans can pass other infections to rabbits, such as MRSA? If a person had a MRSA infection, would they still be able to interact with and care for their bunny after washing their hands?

It’s important that he eats. He might respond to enticing food like small pieces of fruit, fresh herbs, favorite greens or any kind of treats. My girl bun was spayed 6 weeks ago and dried goji berries was the first thing she ate – it’s not something you’d want to feed a bun a lot of due to high sugar content, but a little bit of pretty much…[Read more]

Hey!
Its really important that he eats post op, As Bam mentioned if he’s not eating on you may need to syringe feed him critical care. If he’s already refusing food I would just go ahead and syringe feed him gently and then continue to encourage him to eat on his own by offering a variety of temping grasses/forage/veggies.

Is it the other bun that’s producing these weird poop? Difficult to say perhaps, if both buns are housed together? after a bout of stasis, weird looking poops are pretty standard for some time after. As long as there is poop and the bun is eating and running around, there’s nothing else you need to do.

Really great bonding session tonight! Salem has not groomed Bodhi up until this point, but tonight he groomed him 3 separate times, all for at least a full minute or two! I was so excited, I didn’t get a picture. I was worried I’d spook them by moving around and they’d stop. I feel like they are definitely building a lot of trust.…[Read more]

My 9.5 yr old Mini Rex, Rascal, has been sneezing on and off for a couple of months. Sometimes there are boogers that I can wipe from his nose though they are clear and do not affect his breathing. He’s been to a rabbit savvy vet twice since this started and she’s not worried about it since he doesn’t have signs of a URI (plus a good dental exam…[Read more]
