So recently my rabbit, Dahlia, has been misbehaving like crazy! Nothing I do seems to phase her to get her to stop, I’ll do the thump at her, I will tell her no, I will go EH at her to get her to stop, but NOTHING works. I’ve even tried the bitter apple spray and I think she likes it! I finally found a vet that takes rabbits in my area so I’m…[Read more]

Azerane is correct – that pinkish stuff is actually the eye discharge. The fact that it was pink was what worried me the most initially, since my buns do get the occasional eye boogers like people do. But I’ve never seen eye discharge like that. He did end up going to an emergency vet on Saturday and he’s currently taking 3 meds to help with an…[Read more]

Hi Dana,
Rascal is doing much better. After I wiped away this pink gunk, his eye continued to weep throughout the night (though it was clear in color). I finally couldn’t stomach the idea of waiting it out until his vet was back in the office so we drove across the state to the closest animal hospital that would see a rabbit. He’s being treated…[Read more]

It seems to vary a lot between rabbits. My previous rabbit Bandit used to lick me after I petted him as mutual grooming. He started that after a few months of owning him. My current pair I’ve had for over five years, and neither of them has ever licked me a single time. In their case they probably get their fill in that area from grooming each…[Read more]

Thanks guys, I guess that photo doesn’t look too bad at all but it’s actually very red the skin itself.
but yeh I’ll try giving it a wash with saline thank you I might still take him to the vet later to just see what they say as the consults are free anyway at the normal vets so no harm there but it makes me feel better that you don’t think i…[Read more]

If it was me, I would be making an appointment with the exotics vet for 2 weeks away, rinse the eye with saline solution (do not wipe or rub it). If the eye is worse tomorrow then see the regular vet. If it’s still a problem in two weeks you already have the exotic vet appointment 🙂 You can always cancel the exotic appointment if you don’t end up…[Read more]

Has your vet done a culture swab to feed for pasteurella? It could be ttg early stage of an infection that your rabbit is keeping at bay for the moment, but it may not stay that way.
My rabbits occasionally get eye gunk, just like we get sleep in the corner of our eyes, but if this is something new, the same with the wet nose, then it’s worth…[Read more]

I think the pink growth is actually the eye gunk that was wiped away.

If it may be something irritating the eye, you can try flushing the eye with a sterile saline solution (like the kind marketed for contact lenses). If that doesn’t help, then I recommend a vet visit. Aside from random foreign objects like hay/fur, other (more serious) things can cause eye irritation, so it’s important to get assessment if you do…[Read more]

Has the tear-duct area always have a more bulbous, pink growth, or is that new to the runny eye situation? If normal/unchanged, I would be tempted to try allergy medication, such as Children’s Benedryl, to see if it helps at all. I wrote a short topic on my experience with it here (dosing recommendations should be determined by a vet):…[Read more]

If you’re able to, sending a video of the behavior to your rabbit vet may shed some light on what’s happening. It could be some weird hormonal occurrence or some sort of irritation/gas happening. A vet will do a general check-up prior to neutering.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic overweight or okay? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 7 months ago
As mentioned already, unless a rabbit is severely overweight or underweight, it is hard to tell from just photos whether a rabbit has deviated from normal weight. I also recommend feeling. For some informed parameters on what to look for, see here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Weight_management
Also, if you transitioned to pellet-free due to…[Read more]

Oh no, that’s awful. I’m so sorry for your loss 😥 I think you made the best decision for him. The condition he was in sounds very serious, such extreme anemia is a sign of internal bleeding or things like cancer.
Rabbits are not good at recovering from illnesses, they’re very frail animals. They have few reserves and heal slowly. Sadly they…[Read more]

It doesn’t look that bad. I agree, it could have just been some irritation.

Peanut Twi replied to the topic Bonding is going well, but there are hierarchy issues, feeling a bit stuck. in the forum BONDING 4 years, 7 months ago
Yes, the issue is probably the not so neutral place. Peanut started to put his tale up, started honking and peeing again going to a tornado with Twilight.
So I moved to a very neutral smaller bathroom and see how it will go the overnight. So far there is no chinning and any of those behaviors from Peanut.
How long have you stayed in your…[Read more]

I haven’t seen this before… but it sounds like he is mounting without something to mount! Some people will give their buns a stuffy to help get out their frustrations. 🙂
