prince dorian the bun replied to the topic mental health rapidly declining after getting a bunny, what should I do? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
If you got him from a shelter I would talk to them before re-homing yourself.
That said mental health and anxiety are difficult to give advice on. If anxiety is something you have struggled with in the past, only you (and a professional) know how to treat it and if the responsibility of a bun is making it worse. It may be if you are able to…[Read more]

Ever since I got my bun Suki from a shelter(my local spca) about two weeks ago my mental health has gotten really bad, I’ve been so stressed and anxious, having breakdowns everyday. He has flopped and did binkies so I know he’s getting comfortable, but recently he has been digging up and chewing on his litter box, digging at the flooring, rattling…[Read more]

It’s 1hr each way, I would offer to them when I am waiting for the vet. I just have a water bottle and empty bowl, nothing in the carrier itself. At least that’s what I did with just Dorian. Wet leafy greens is a good idea though!
Thanks both of you, I suspect these two will be fine, other than not enjoying the car ride and having their nails…[Read more]

Thank you all for the advices/suggestion!
I guess the weight score is in between score 2 and score 1? (cause she’s quite fluffy hence might be a bit challenging for me to feel her actual bone structure). I’m a first time bunny owner by the way! Thus might not be able to judge accurately.
I’m feeding her about two tablespoons of mix baby pellets…[Read more]

I have also had buns that will eat CC or other recovery food when they are fine, but not when ill, which I suppose makes sense if they are refusing all food!
I do know someone who clicker trained her buns to readily eat from a syringe so that when they were sick it would be an automatic behavior. Might be something to try! She started by just…[Read more]

I’ve never had issues either! Usually you hear about issues when one goes to the vet and the other doesn’t, but I’ve never had issues with that either.
The car ride in the carrier together is usually good for the bond. And it’s fine that they can’t move around much, it’s actually safer that way. From what you described that sounds like a good…[Read more]

I must admit, I’m a bit spoiled with buns who never have bond issues after vet visits. I can take one or both and they’ve never been negatively affected.
I always put a handful of hay in the carrier, for longer trips I recommend some wet leafy greens that they’re used to, rather than water. A water bowl or bottle can be dangerous if you stop…[Read more]

Molasses isn’t listed as an ingredient on my bag, I would have avoided it if it were Also no issues like you described, though it takes me a while to go through a bag so this isan older batch. Where did you get your bag? I hope you didn’t get a cheap knock off, Amazon has that issue with lots of products unfortunately.

I am taking Dorian and Miu in for nail trims and wellness checks on Tuesday and have heard of vet visits causing issues with bonds so want to make sure I do things to minimize it.
I was going to take them in my old cat carrier, should I bring Dorian’s soft carrier as well. I am not sure if it is big enough. They both can fit and sort of turn…[Read more]

I forgot to add, I’m giving her Trimebutine as well. And yes, she is shedding a lot so that might be in. Thanks for your responses! This is just so strange, I’ve never seen GI Stasis with no behavioural change but I’ll keep going with what I’m doing, hopefully she snaps out of it soon. Thanks again!

Thanks Dana! I’ll try it when she comes home. I think sometimes it’s the texture and the messiness that makes the bunnies hate CC.
I remember one of my bunnies who also didn’t like CC when she was sick loves it when she was not lol. Sometimes I feel like I should probably train Kotton to eat something she may have to eat when she is sick haha…

Yes, it does sound like GI stasis. A motility drug like Reglan or cisapride could be helpful. Famotidine is good too because it helps protect the stomach from the meloxicam.

I think it’s ok if it’s been stored in a dry place. I once had to use old CC for a bun when I couldn’t get hold of a new bag because it was Sunday. It worked just fine. For short-term use, the most important ingredient is the fiber, to keep the gut working.
The best thing is actually to store CC in the freezer. I think Oxbow recommends that on their site.

I’m just wondering how long Critical Care from Oxbow lasts for. I have an open bag from 2020 from when Thumper was sick with the snuffles and I was wondering if it’s still good or not.
