Oh interesting! I didn’t know it was harder on their stomachs than the antibiotics. She’s on 100mg/ml of Chloramphenicol 2x/day. The c-grip hold that you all told me about works phenomenally for the actual administration, but getting her to actually come out to get her meds is more difficult. I capitalized on her treat obsession originally, so n…[Read more]

She does live with two other bunnies. It just doesn’t look like a bite wound to me. The skin is very clean.

Does she live with other buns? Could another bun have nipped a little chunk of fur away?
The skin underneath looks healthy.

Gut slow-downs can have some ups and downs in recovery. If his hay consumption and poops have slowed again, you should syringe feed him and give him another round of metacam.
Sometimes you may get a bad batch of hay that the bun doesnt like for some reason, so trying a dif hay might be good to do as well.

Penicillin shots are generally harder on the stomach than a bun-safe oral antibiotics. I’m not too sure about their use in treating syphilis, which antibiotic is Pixie on?
Often the meds can be compounded to taste sweet to make them easier to give. if not try mixing with some mashed banana. You can even start pre-training the bun to take some…[Read more]

Hi again!
I posted a bit ago about my girl, Pixie, who was getting antibiotics for a sore on her mouth. Turns out, she has bunny syphilis! I’ve been treating her for the past few weeks with antibiotics, which has been a “fun” adventure, but just got the news that my male bunny is also positive for syphilis. They want to start him on the same 4 wee…[Read more] -

He’s pooping, it’s just that some of them are smaller than usual and some of them aren’t. They did give me a treatment plan and the vet at the very least claimed they were rabbit savvy, they do a bunch of rabbit neuters and checkups and they have good reviews. The treatment plan was to give him metacam and critical care when he wasn’t eating,…[Read more]

Hiya, I’m really anxious to get some advise hopefully. I was with my bunny today and I noticed she had a patch on her nose. This isn’t anywhere else and has come up in the last 2-3 days possibly.
I’m really worried what it might be, she’s never had a patch like this before. There is no hair at all. Just a section of skin. It doesn’t really loo…[Read more] -

I agree, some buns take longer to recover. My dental bun Yohio needed a cpl of days after his first burr before he went back to eating normally. He recovered a lot quicker after his later burrs. Maybe his mouthpain was worse the first time, it took my vets a long time to diagnose his dental problem. That was 8 years ago, vets here know more about…[Read more]

1 year old buns have a TON of energy, so even if you are providing lots of toys they can still get “stuck” on one thing.
Does he actually use the toys he has? If not, some experimenting to find somethings he will actually like might help. I know my destructo-buns like to shred phone books (if you can find one) and cardboard cat…[Read more]

Thank you SO much for responses so far, what I don’t think I made clear is that what bothers us is that it’s a NEW behaviour, he’s just suddenly started doing it. It may be, he’s just turned 1, and he simply…. loves it. So long as he’s not injuring his mouth it’s certainly not an annoyance to us, it’s just we knew that it’s commonly a sign o…[Read more]

So, bunnies don’t recognize sibling relationships and once they hit puberty they will often fight. I suspect they were never fully bonded and were more at the “tolerance” phase.
A little chasing around food is OK, but having fast chasing, grunting and pulling fur are signs that they are not bonded. Especially since Lennon will also chase if Gippy…[Read more]

Buns have a tendency to get obsessed over certain spots! Bun Jovi used to do this… his pen would be open and he would still sit inside the cage and bite the bars of the wall right next to the door. It was in a very specific spot, like your bunny.
It often helps to hang a sheet or towel over the wall in question with clamps. For some reason once…[Read more]

Did they give you a treatment plan, and is the vet rabbit savvy? How long ago was that? Not pooping is not normal. If there are no blockages then the treatment is usually syringe feeding, pain management, and often fluids. Sometimes a motility medication is needed.

Some buns just take longer to recover than others. It’s great she’s nibbling a bit. Their mouths can be sore after the trimming, esp if they already had cuts on their cheeks or tongue, so it can take a little while for eating to get back to normal.
For future reference, I would try some other brands of recovery food to see if you can find one…[Read more]

I don’t think there is anything you can do other than contact animal welfare services or the Humane Society but they might just say there is nothing they can do. There are so many youtubers out there and so called rabbit rescue people out there. Its not just rabbits but other animals like a certain youtuber who claims to rescue puppies and just so…[Read more]
