The lumps are abscesses, and they can grow very quickly. Hopefully they’ll stop growing now thanks to the antibiotics. If not, they will probably need to be opened and cleaned out.

Hello everyone,
I’m new to rabbits. Got a few of them from my landlord because the kids wanted to have them as pets. I noticed one of them had funky stuff on her nose, now another one is starting to show the same funkiness on her nose too. What disease does it look like?
Thanks for any help!

Sorry to spam, but I just felt under Gus’ chin and the lumps have quite literally doubled in size. The chickpea one is about half a marble now. Is this a common thing for infections? Is it just a matter of he’s only had one day of antibiotics so they aren’t working yet and the infection is just progressing naturally?
Worried the vet might have…[Read more]

Thank you both for the responses.
I called his primary vet the moment they opened and lucked out – someone canceled and we were able to take their spot.
The vet stated he wasn’t worried about an abscess because they are typically only occuring in older rabbits, he said about five years and up. He also stated that Gus looked, felt, and sounded…[Read more]

Thanks everyone! I’ll try making the cookies for sure. Dorian was not impressed by the oats, he ate one and ignored the rest. I will try seeds, unfortunately the sunflower seeds I have are salted. Usually I get raw, but didn’t last time (I like them in human salads), I will pick up some unsalted seeds next time I go to store.
I’m also offering…[Read more]

I found it easiest to mix the CC as a slightly thicker mixture (i.e., less water), put it in a plastic bag, cut off a corner, and pipe it as strips so they dried faster in the oven (200F for 15min+, depending on how long it takes to dry out). Then I would break apart the strips into pieces.

Bam replied to the topic Managing Hock Sores in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 2 months ago
When my bun got sore hocks I wrapped his feet with self-adhesive vet wrap lined with his own fur. It’s important that the lining is rabbit fur. Cotton pads or lamb’s wool etc isnt soft enough.
Dont let the fur lining protrude out from the wrap, or the bun might feel inclined to pull the fur out (my rabbit did that before I realised).
I recommend…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Helping with weight gain in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 2 months ago
As for rolled oats, I started out with like half a teaspoon. Then I gradually increased the amount to 1 tablespoon per day, divided up into 2-3 servings. I gave him about 6 sunflower seeds (shelled) and 3-4 pumpkin seeds per day. Seeds are rich in fat, and fat stimulates gut movement. Good quality vegetable fat contains essential fatty acids which…[Read more]

It seems he needed you and you needed you 🙂 Sometimes the Universe makes these things happen! It doesnt sound like he needs an emergency vet visit. He’s eating and pooping and peeing. His current diet seems fine.
I’m very sorry you lost your rabbit.

Oh wow! What timing!
If he’s handling the pellets well you could increase them gradually. Since he’s likely young then getting extra pellets is OK, and since he was malnourished they will help him get some weight back on.
