CutieMoosh started the topic Bunny’s eye looks torn and bloody in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 8 months ago

    Hi everyone,

My bunny was acting fine today but I just noticed there was something up with his eye. Im not sure if it’s called a tear duct, but the clear membrane thing in the corner of bunnies’ eyes seems like it’s bled for my rabbit’s right eye. He’s acting normal, but the corner of his eye looks a little pink and has some blood. I just noti…[Read more]

That all sounds good and I think just keeping an eye on things is the way to go. Hopefully things continue to settle down!

Both are neutered yes, no mounting. He usually grooms between the ears, nothing on the back. Biscuit has a few hides where he’s been hanging out, and now he is getting back to let me touch him little by little, and Smores seems to have toned it down but Biscuit is keeping his distance. Sometimes Smores will sit outside the hide (Smores seems a…[Read more]

Just double checking that they are both neutered now?

Sometimes rough grooming precedes mounting, so I wonder if the chasing to groom could actually be chasing to mount? Is the grooming focused on the head or more on the back? Grooming on the back is usually right before mounting.

If nothing is escalating to circling or scuffling then I think…[Read more]

No mounting, he does chase Biscuit but again, mainly to groom and nothing that seems aggressive. When they were younger Biscuit would be pretty aggressive to his brother, till we neutered him. He does still growl at him from time to time, if it’s to the point of chasing we step in. He has growled at Smores to get away if it is overly bothering him…[Read more]

Hmmm, usually overgrooming (aka “barbering”) is stress related. Have you noticed any signs of dominance struggles? Such as mounting or chasing? It could have to do with the eye injury, I’m assuming that’s being treated?

I think asking for set-up pictures is a great idea. Doing a home check might be hard but you could certainly ask to Zoom/Facetime.  There can be good adopters out there on Craigslist, it just takes time to weed through them as you are learning (I got my first house bun from Craigslist!). I think having a convo and quizzing them on what they plan…[Read more]

He will forgive you. The way to a rabbit’s heart is food and patience. 🙂

Play “hard to get”. Spend time in the same room and on the floor but “ignore” your bun. Reading a book or watching a quiet movie will all help them relax around you. Don’t try to pet until bun relaxes near you on their own.

Hope by now you were able to have him seen and he is healing! I live in a city and have similar vet problems, it’s gotten a little better but still wish there would be more rabbit vets. It sucks in times when they are sick.

Oh, great news! (Love the “long” response!)

Getting the bun to move really can work wonders for a gassy bun! The stimulation of trying to avoid the carrier was probably exactly what tipped Dorian’s GI system into working mode – you had done great foundation-work with the meds, the heat source and the massage. It’s great to have some meds at home,…[Read more]

Many rescues charge $80-100 for adoption fees in my experience, so going to $75 to $90 wouldn’t be completely unreasonable, especially if rescues are limited and you’re trying to find dedicated owners. Rabbits are expensive pets so a higher rate dissuading someone is likely a wise thing early on.

Thanks Bam! It was .8ml, in 1.5mg/ml… think that worked out to a little over 2mg a day which seems to be the current recommendation.

I ended up almost taking him to the emergency clinic, but he saw the carrier and refused to let me near him… 20 minutes of me trying to catch him with out stressing him out, must of been just what he needed. …[Read more]

That’s another idea to consider. You definitely have to be pretty bold to ask them that. I think if I choose this option I would have to actually visit their house, since allot of people are unaware of how bad their setup really is. I just want to be careful not to scare away potentially good keepers.

A friend of mine did Pomeranian/Chihuahua rescue.

One of her prime ?s was asking to do a home check.  Anyone who said no was immediately out.  Anyone who said yes, she actually didn’t have to do it because she felt comfortable enough with that answer.

Maybe ask that and see what happens.
