We’re in MT and now that I think about it I actually haven’t heard of it in Idaho but WA and BC are close enough! I do have a huge Rubbermaid bin for hay but I keep an entire bale in it so it’s tough to empty out. My sister might actually have something I can put them into in addition to a house I can borrow though.

Hello! It’s very obvious you really love and treat your bunnies very well. I’m definitely not a bunny expert but, like you, I’ve done wayyyy too much research lol. If, in fact, she does have arthritis or another similar problem that could be why she has litter problems. If it’s painful for her to hop into the litter box, she won’t do it (or not o…[Read more]

Hi Dana, you are right. I am rushing things. I did a lot of reading online, and felt immense guilt for having kept my last bunny, Sachi alone while I was at school or work. ( I had him for 10 years ). I was also told by a couple of people that it would be best to add a second rabbit when they are babies– the younger the better. There is so much…[Read more]

Wow, what a story! Thank you for rescuing her, she is very lucky you found her!!! Poor baby 🙁 I worry about those cats too…. 🙁

A couple things jump out to me, that I think you already have identified most of them. The excessive water drinking could be a symptom of a dental problem, or a kidney problem. Both could lead to peeing all over the…[Read more]

Pee and poop wars are pretty normal until they are spayed/neutered (and babies in general).  What is the litter box and set-up like? How big is the litter box? Sometimes a larger litter box helps (those corner boxes especially are too small). The newspaper could be confusing her a bit as well.

Being in side by side carriers doesn’t really have the same effect as them being able to snuggle together. Once you know they don’t fight in the car, you can put them in a carrier together in the car, but I usually don’t like to do that until I know they aren’t going to fight. Breaking up a fight in a carrier is much harder than in a bin! I…[Read more]

It sounds a lot like cecotropes as these tend to smell and are soft. I’m pretty sure excess cecotropes are generally caused by eating too much sugar (pellets and treats) and not enough hay. He may have started eating less hay or possibly eating all of his pellets at once?

Haha I think at this point since I never leave the house I’m more afraid if rhd than covid! My understanding is that they now think it’s spreading in the wild in North America via birds. It’s been confirmed in neighboring states and provinces so outside is a no go for us. But I think I could drive them to my sister’s house and do the date there.…[Read more]

That probably won’t wear them down enough. The way I understand it doing serious and regular digging will help more but that’s not really an option for a lot of buns!

You’re welcome! I totally understand the struggle of double housing! I am in a studio apartment and have been able to make temporary housing for bonding, so it is possible… but not necessarily the most convenient! I was certainly happy when my most recent pair bonded and I was able to break down the second pen. My brother joked that my apartment…[Read more]

Thanks Dana! He’s 12 weeks now but will be 16 weeks when she’s ready to come home. I understand they’re typically ready between 12-16 weeks. My local exotics vet just called and said to expect 5 months. I just don’t see being able to keep them this way comfortably (for everyone) with the small space we are working with..it’s a small home. I do…[Read more]

Thanks both of you for the suggestions and advice! Yes @DanaNM they will be in the same room but in the new ex-pen. The puppy pee pads are a great idea that I’d never thought of, I managed to find some on Amazon! I think they’ll be a great help with making it seem a bit different and also covering/protecting our floor.

    I agree that I’ll just have…[Read more]
