He is most likely going through bunny puberty, and after the surgery his hormones should be calmed down, and while he may not go back to exactly who he was before, his behavior will definitely change for the better. Keeping him in a pen for a few days should be fine as long as he has room.

I use a metal rack that is meant to hold spare toilet paper rolls. I’ve also seen people use similar looking racks meant to store plastic bags. I just use a clip to attach it to the side of the cage.

There really shouldn’t be a lot of odor or pee staining with any litter if you clean the litter box regularly. How often do you clean it? Is it possible he has a medical issue and is urinating on himself?

I use pine pellets with a layer of hay on top, and dump the whole thing every other day, and there really isn’t any odor to speak of.

I wouldn’t recommend setting up a pen a rest stops, they would likely be very scared and could escape. Rather, I think you would just want to take a lot of breaks to make sure they eat and drink, because a lot of rabbits won’t eat in a moving car. But, some get used to it and start eating, and eventually will sleep.

Just fyi if you anyone (guilty) bought a tiny hay rack online or from a pet store in haste…. if it’s wooden, you can actually knock every other bar out and it’s usable. 14 hours is a very long time for rabbits to be in the car, I would recommend giving them time outside of the carrier to at least feed them, and they most likely won’t take any food, so most people recommend giving water and food with a syringe. I agree with Wick. Vinegar is the way to go, plus it eliminates pee and poo odors.

Sounds like a good plan! Always good to base off your vet’s comfort level and the bun’s development.

Thanks guys, I actually called a month and a half or so ago when he was between 3-4 months, and they suggested 6-8, and seemed to think 4-5 was early, although I find that number to be the consensus online. Dana, I think that is actually where I got that number from and was surprised!
