LBJ10 replied to the topic My rabbit is drinking water after every time he eats hay. in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 1 month ago
Bunnies are weird. Sometimes they aren’t very interested in hay. Then one day, they discover how yummy it is. 🙄 I agree with the others, it’s perfectly normal for a bunny that eats a lot of hay to drink more water.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Grate Or No Grate in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
Yeah… there has to be a grate. Otherwise the entire litter box would be emptied onto the floor each night. But not all bunnies do this. In fact, everything was fine for about 7 years…
Anyway, if you choose to use a grate, I like the ones from the BB store. They just sit right on top of the litter, you don’t really need to worry about it…[Read more]

😯  wat. LOL
I would not listen to her… pet store employees are notoriously uninformed… and/or intentionally telling you things so you buy things (especially if it’s the owner!). Pet stores sell lots of bunny treats that are very bad for them, plus cages that are way too small, etc.
Definitely no dairy whatsoever. There are some digestive…[Read more]

That’s what I thought! Thanks. I was not expecting her to say anything like that. It was very weird.

What you think sounds more correct to me… rabbits should essentially be vegan, so dairy is a no-no. Whether rabbits should wear harnesses really depends on the owner and how well they know their rabbit, but I choose not to use a harness in case Louie freaks out and gets tangled up in the leash. I read papaya can help tummy issues, and Oxbow…[Read more]

She’s going to the vet soon to be treated for EC so I’ll talk to the vet about it then. I’m in the process of litter box training her but I guess she thinks one of her beds is a litter box and she just goes on that. So I can see it pretty clearly. It’s white and not as thin as water but not thick either. If I were to rub a Q-tip over it I don’t t…[Read more]

I was at the pet store today buying pellets and water bowls for my bunnies I’m getting next week. The person working there (I think she’s the owner) asked me about my rabbits and I told her I’m adopting them and getting them next week. She told me she’s a vet tech and asked me a bunch of questions, one of those things was about belly bloat.…[Read more]

Ah, I see. At some point you will just have to try and see how it goes. Setting short time goals helps too, even if it means stopping the session before they interact. Not interacting is actually a conscious decision in rabbits, so ignoring is OK if the previous behavior was fighting. You might be surprised at how much stressing can help.

Some calcium coming out in the urine is ok, but if it is a thick sludge, or if she is straining to pee and nothing is coming out, that could mean she has stones and is in pain. She may need medical treatment if that’s the case. That would also be a potential cause for stasis if she is in pain from that.
Try removing her bedding from her litter…[Read more]

NoodletheRabbit replied to the topic New Bunny Isn't Eating Hay in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
I totally agree with Moonlightbunny66, because my bunny actually used to have that same poblem, long ago, and then when he tried orchard grass, he surprisinly loved it, and ate lots so then I could cut way back on pellets. The only thing that I would keep note of with orchard grass hay is that it has a smidge less fibre than Timothy, so I would…[Read more]
