@DanaNM @Louiethebunny I think the animal rescue here mostly relies on donations. I don’t have any rabbit rescues near me either. I could maybe ask about the hay, but I feel like I’ve bugged them enough with my millions of questions about the bunnies I’m adopting lol!

@Bam Good to know about the horse hay. Thank you. It’s all I can see on Kijiji,…[Read more]

@Louiethebunny I am so thrilled for you at how good things are going with them! 🙂 You may very well have an easy bond. I agree with @DanaNM, let Lola settle in for a week, then start pre-bonding. I would do the pre-bonding for a few weeks, then start sessions. Have you heard of the ‘stunt double’ trick? It is in the RABBIT INFO bonding section,…[Read more]

I pick fresh lettuce from my garden, but I store it in an old spring mix container, and to keep the greens fresh, I wash the leaves, then put them in a salad spinner to get the excess water out, and then I line the container with a thin tea towel/cheesecloth type fabric to absorb extra water but keep the greens moist.

I second contacting rescues near you. The woman running the rescue I adopted Lola from also sells hay, $10 US for a large bag, and she sources it from a farm that provides it for horses. Rescues need large quantities for fairly inexpensive, so calling and asking could definitely be helpful.

Thanks for the reply! Awesome, I’ll let her chill out for a week then start cage swaps. The woman we adopted her from has a small rescue, with maybe 20-ish rabbits, and she helps other people with bonding, and she told us that because Lola was so great during the speed date, they should have a pretty awesome bond.

Another photo of the lovely Lola! A few things I learned about her, she’s very outgoing, she came out and hopped and sniffed and tried to play with me today, Louie needed a few days to chill out when we brought him home. She also doesn’t like bananas! Hard to believe! She loves apples though.

    🙂 Very exciting!

You can for sure allow interacting, as long as it’s not physical (so not able to contact each other through the fence, just so there is no nipping).

Even though she seems settled, I would still wait a week before starting pre-bonding. This will allow you get to know her a little bit too before you start bonding. Then another…[Read more]

    My questions are:

Should I allow any interaction during separate playtime, for example, (if Louie goes up to Lola’s cage, should I allow him to peek in and interact? I’ve been scooching him away if he gets to close.

When should I start some prebonding? I’d like to do a week or two of cage swapping and such.

Hi, I have a few questions about how to go about starting bonding with Lola and Louie, I filled out the template below for what currently applies.

    Spay/Neuter
    Are your bunnies spayed/neutered?
If so, for how long (for each)?
Yes, Louie (m) for at least 4 months, Lola (f) at least 6 weeks.

    Housing
Please describe your bunnies’ current housing s…[Read more]

    Okay thanks!

The hay was nice, green and fresh looking.  I’m still unsure about what kind exactly it is but the owners still getting back to me.
Are the flowers mixed in okay for them to eat?

Types of hay that are OK for rabbits are: timothy, orchard, oat, botanical, and meadow. Admittedly, I am just listing the types that Oxbow sells, thus I am certain those are safe for rabbits!

Re: hay poke-ness…. Roughness is not a bad thing. The “poke” pieces, which are typically stems and stalks, are the most fibrous and healthy for rabbits.…[Read more]

I’ve been doing dates every other day because we have to do car rides still and that’s a lot of stress. Thursday all 3 bunnies rode to the vet together, then yesterday they went for a ride and then spent 6 hours together in the kitchen. Today I decided to do a short date with no car ride and Clover hasn’t nipped at Ben a single time! He’s ready to…[Read more]

I have 2 neutered males who love each other so much! Just get both fixed so they aren’t as aggressive and territorial and consider doing a preadoption date first to see if you can find the easiest match for him. 2 males absolutely can have an air tight bond!
