Wick & Fable replied to the topic What to do when you first get a rabbit? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years ago

There’s a lot to do! I highly recommend reading the RABBIT INFO section of this website so you have the essential background knowledge needed to continue caring for Baylor.

There should always be daily opportunities to get adequate exercise in a large space for as long as possible. It’s great that you are getting an Xpen. If it’s not too…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Baby Bunny Diet in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years ago

Young rabbits are instructed to be served “unlimited pellets”, but this often leads to them over-eating them and neglecting to eat hay, which is the most vital part of their diet. I think a few tablespoons to 1/4 cup of pellets presented for some time in the early morning, then taken away and re-presented in the evening, would be fine. The focus…[Read more]

I wouldn’t really try to do any water spraying as a tactic. A previous owner saying he’s aggressive makes me feel that, whether it is a result of environment, hormones, or both (which it’s commonly both), simple behavioral training will not help.

I am biased and weary towards owners who describe their rabbits as aggressive because, being a…[Read more]

Hmmm, that is odd. ๐Ÿ˜• ย I don’t get why he would be digging in just one corner.

Here is a website that might help https://myhouserabbit.com/rabbit-behavior/how-to-deal-with-chewing-digging/

I hope that you find the answer. Good luck!

I’ve moved this topic to House Rabbit Q&A so it gets some more attention.

I am also curious if you have more than one rabbit. Is the nose bleed coming from in the nose or is there an injury on the nose?

Congrats on your bunny @Yahzi!! At 9 weeks old he still needs a young bun diet, so alfalfa hay (or a mix with timothy/orchard grass) and unlimited pellets. I think it may be a bit early to start on greens, hopefully someone else can address that for you better. You want to get their digestion all set up and also get them into eating hay, it should…[Read more]

Just to clarify, we do give him Timothy Hay Plus. I bought the kind with carrots and one with marigold. I also have the Kaytee fiesta gourmet rabbit food, I give him a bit of that a day, but he doesn’t finish it. He loves the hay 😍

Hi, I’m new here. 3 days ago my son and I adopted a 9 week old Mini Rex. We’re not sure if it’s a boy or a girl, but will soon have a vet check up. We think it’s a boy 😉 He is the sweetest thing in the whole world. We took him from people who had 2 other rabbits his age, in the same cage. Your forums are really helping me with info, thank you! We…[Read more]

Does your bunny live with another bunny? Are they bonded? It sounds like maybe one bunny bit the other one? If that’s the case, they should be separated.

Some more info on the bunnies can help us advise on what to do next.

I’ve got bad news and good news:

Bad news:ย Hunny is not eating her soaked pellets, nor is she drinking water, at least as far as I’ve seen.

Good news:ย Hunny ate a piece of romaine lettuce with almost no difficulty! I had to hold it above her head and let her tear at it, but she got all of it down and didn’t spit up a single bite!

    I tried to g…[Read more]

Metacam she’s getting 0.4ml twice daily, her eye seems to be affected too.

I showed the xray to a vet in USA, he said there is a bad overgrowth of one tooth at the root, and said to give enroflaxacin 25mg twice daily. I’m wondering if that maybe a high dose, seeing that my bun is 2.5kgs.

Also, does the tooth need extraction then? Cause then how…[Read more]

Thank you, @pinkiemarie ๐Ÿ™‚ย Knock on wood, but I have not seen any bald patches. I think you’re right and we’re just dealing with a normal (albeit heavy) molt. It was the degree of molting and size of the tufts I was pulling out from Hunny’s lower coat that was getting me worried.

It lasts way beyond the best before date if you keep it in the freezer. I used a 2 year old bag last fall with my bun without any problem.

I wouldn’t worry about that fur unless you start seeing bald patches. That’s what Wal’s bum looks like during a heavy molt. Just keep checking in on her like you have been to make sure she doesn’t develop any bald spots as that would indicate that it’s something other than a heavy molt. With her dental issues she may not be grooming herself as…[Read more]
