Ok, I re-found the long term study that is where people get the numbers most often quoted (short term studies are misleading, since most lab and meat rabbits don’t live long enough to get cancer):

“Thirty-seven percent of tumor-bearing animals had second primary tumors…[Read more]

Okay thanks guys. It’s probably just that then. He does it when he’s just laying down or sitting though. Maybe he’s thinking about food idk lol.

I have seen the actual published studies, I am trying to find them again now for everyone’s reference. It is certainly not a myth and the numbers are not inflated. Rates of cancer go up with age, and vary by breed. So the lifetime cumulative risk is quite high (that’s that 80% number you’ll see), but people might choose to quote one age or…[Read more]

Hi I wanted to clarify a few things: I don’t need advice on how to care for Harper. The fact that I give her space to roam and run is my own choosing, I certainly look after her and make sure she’s not in harms way. Further, I’m very comfortable not spaying her. Should anything change, obviously I would rush her to the vet. She is my best friend,…[Read more]

I’m trying to advocate for Hunny, believe me. We all love her and don’t want to give up on her, but last night, I think my family was speaking out of fear and worry. The vet was at a loss and was basically just saying “You can try this, but no promises.” We weren’t being told anything encouraging.

I just got Hunny to take a few bites of romaine,…[Read more]

Muffin and Pinky keep leaving a ton of the harder stalky hay parts in the litter box and hay racks. It was Oxbow Timothy hay. They like to eat all of the soft parts. They’ll eat the hard parts when I hand feed it to them. But they pick out the soft parts in their pens. So I’m left with a ton of the hard parts. I just use them to put over the woo…[Read more]

I agree with Bam and HipHop and would very much advice you to get her spayed anyway to prevent reproductive cancer.

Also, you might want to reconsider letting her run loose in the park. It’s great that you’re trying to provide her with that outside playtime and stimulation. However, if this is a public park, you don’t know if someone is going to…[Read more]

I thought your parents said they would do the Penicillin shots in place of surgery? Why have they changed their mind on that?

I just can’t believe they would rather let Hunny die/put her to sleep than do the surgery (and now even the Penicillin shots). I don’t think it’s right to sentence her to death just because they don’t want to deal with…[Read more]

    Hi @Harps

I second all that Bam said. 🙂 It is great how she is behaving well for you, shows a sweet bun. 😉 My girls were sweet before too. I had all three of my ladies happily bonded, they showed not the slightest bit aggression, they were all the cuddliest buns you could ever ask for. 😀 Until one day, I had to separate them all, for…[Read more]

Thank you for the update! 🙂

I’m glad the milk thistle isn’t going to create a problem, that’s a relief. It’s too bad about the CBD, but I get why you want to hold off on it, better safe than sorry. It’s unfortunate that we can’t make use of something that could be beneficial because we haven’t done the research, and at the same time they won’t…[Read more]

Hunny continues to do poorly. She is barely pooping, and the poops she leaves are small and dark in coloration. She shows no interest in food of any kind, and we’re lucky if we can get more than 5ml of Critical Care per feeding in her, nowadays. Hunny spends a lot of time hiding in her tube.

We called the vet last night to see what her…[Read more]

In my opinion, this does sound like it could be EC. Side effects of Panacur are rare, and until rather recently considered pretty much nil. There is however cases where rabbits have gone into bone marrow failure after longer term use of fenbwndazole )the active ingredient in Panacur). Some vets like to do a blood count after 20 days or so, to make…[Read more]

Yes sorry I should be more clear, I know no online advise can replace veterinary care.
I am really bothered by my vet. There aren’t any others willing to see him within a 3-4 hour drive and we’d have to drive through the Willits fire to try and get to a different vet that I know is decent.

i guess I was wondering if that sounds like it could be…[Read more]

Some buns molt in patches. That is often the case when you see spots of hair loss but no accompanying skin problem. With mites and fungus you see some changes to the skin, such as dandruff, redness, irritation, scabs (can be skin colored, so easier felt than seen).

The quality of the hair in the patches feels different from the rest of the fur…[Read more]

My bun got sore hocks last winter, when he was poorly with something unrelated. It healed well with cleaning, applying of antibacterial cream and wrapping. If the skin is not broken you can use spay on band aid, but don’t if there’s broken skin,, because it would be very painful. Here’s instructions with pictures of how to make the wrap described…[Read more]

My girl bunny, Psyron aged 7 ½ had sore hocks few years ago. It can also form from poor litter box or cage conditions. Turns out they were peeing on top of the hay and then stepping on it. Led to sore hocks in the female and we quickly resolved that.

If it’s small and unbroken we changed her living condition, washed her feet very gently and…[Read more]
