Hi Bam – thanks so much for your response. I really hope that’s it! I do feel the area of the skin and couldn’t feel anything very obvious thankfully. I’ll keep watching it for a few days and hopefully it will become more conclusive that is just molting or something else…. I’m definitely nervous about it.

Hmmm, I don’t know what ear mites look like, but my three ladies had some a while back. If they do have some, it would be my suspicion that your cats are bringing them in, that’s what my vet said was likely for my girls as well. Ear mites are extremely contagious, so if Pinky has some, then definitally treat Muffin as well. Once I got the…[Read more]

Starlightbunny: That second picture! 😀 The first time I caught one of my buns sleeping with his eyes open I just about had a heart attack. 😆
Dana: Bun Jovi sleeping like that, so funny and adorable! 🙂
HipHop: All three of your girls are so pretty, those are great pics. Silver looks stunning! *pets screen*

It’s hard to catch on camera but there is quite a lot of that greyish substance in his ear. I didn’t get to check the other ear yet.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I just want them to get all the nutrients they need. I’m hoping the hay from the farm feed store will be good.
I can’t seem to find where it says what cut it is on packaging from stores or online.
Thank you!

We don’t want Hunny to associate us with pain by giving her injections or traumatizing her by bringing her to the vet so they can do those injections every other day.
I understand that. But this would be a temporary situation, and if you could ask Hunny, I’m sure she would choose a few shots over dying.
I think the fear is now that my m…[Read more]

Surgery and rehoming are out of the question. I have already stated as much. With that in mind, I’ve been searching desperately for another solution. I keep coming back to this article about the penicillin: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/jawabscess.html
If there’s even a remote chance Hunny could benefit from injections and not be traumatized by…[Read more]

So I am taking Pinky and Muffin to the vet to get them check ups as soon as I can find a vet in my area. We’ve contacted our vet that we take our dog and cats to, to see if they know where to find a good vet for rabbits. So as I’m waiting for a response, I thought I’d show you guys this photo of Pinky’s ear. I think it may be ear mites. I looked…[Read more] -

With a piece that small, it is probably fine! Just monitor if there’s anything unusual, like no appetite or pooping.

I left out this bag of Timothy hay we just bought and Muffin decided to chew a hole to get in it. I pulled him away and put fresh hay in his litter box so he started eating that instead. Is he gonna be okay? Last time it was tape that he ate. Now plastic from the hay bag… I’m gonna see if I can put the bag into the cardboard box from the last b…[Read more] -

Woo-hoo! We are getting there! OB, the one who is the most difficult with Smokey – was snuggling with Smokey for 1 hour now! We got grooms, flops, and lots of snuggles! YAY! 😀 😀 Thank you all for your help, I don’t know where we’d be without you!

ThorBunny replied to the topic Picky with hay in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
I think every bun tends to like different softness of hays.
Thor sounds like your buns though, she always picked out all the leaves and left the stalks! While more fiber is better for them, my understanding is that encouraging general hay consumption is best. So we switched to 3rd cut Timmothy hay (the higher the cut number, the softer the hay in…[Read more]

My previous post isn’t showing up yet, but something I want to add that I can’t believe I didn’t think to mention until now: to my knowledge, none of these vets have sampled Hunny’s abscess to find out what bacteria we’re dealing with.

I hate to be negative, but the longer you delay the appropriate treatment, the harder it will be to cure.
I also hate to dump a sick rabbit on a rescue, but I do agree with Hazel that there is a clear treatment path here, and someone else might be more willing to do what is needed.
Giving injections is very easy and is actually less traumatizing…[Read more]
