Here’s a link to a screenshot of the quote they sent me, if that’s helpful.

@Wick, thank you for your feedback! This is pretty much what I figured, and it’s validating to get this response.

@Bam, good point, but not what’s happening in this case (I don’t think). They’re an “avian and exotic” clinic, not a cat and dog clinic. (I imagine they would refuse cats and dogs as clients.) It might be that they’re more focused on…[Read more]

Thank you guys. Maybe I should start with eliminating veggies? Do I need to do this slowly? And what would be the next step if I find that the veggies or pellets is causing it?

Also my rabbit vet is 1 1/2 away. Do you think they would recommend to try the same thing?

It was Pinky that was barely eating hay for a few days. I tried different types…[Read more]

Give it a couple weeks before losing hope. Esther was getting used to being queen of the castle, but I’d bet that she will calm down soon. 🙂

Myra was FLIPPING out when I first brought Bonnie home. She will still occasionally try to nip her through the fence, but they will also lay right next to each other and seem fairly content as neighbors…[Read more]

I’ve noticed slightly darker poops with orchard vs. stemmy timothy. Oat hay always gives my buns very light poops. As long as they aren’t smelly and mushy inside, and she’s eating plenty of hay I think you are in good shape. 🙂

Sometimes vet will quote a very high price for simple procedures like a bunny neuter, just to not have to perform any procedure on a rabbit.

I’d be wary. If a vet doesn’t want to deal with rabbits, it can mean they don’t feel comfortable treating rabbits. That’s just about the last thing you want. They can of course still be perfectly good…[Read more]

I don’t see why you need to wait to do item swaps. It’s about scent adjustments.

I do not have bonded rabbits, but I have two rabbits that are generally tolerant of each other. The beginning sounds very similar to yours, except my first was the male, and the incoming was the female. My male was very aggressive and my female was very very loving…[Read more]

    Okay thanks @DanaNM .

I think I’m already losing some hope. I hate seeing Esther like this, so aggressive and angry. She’s such a sweet loving girl and I thought she’d love a friend for that reason, and I didn’t anticipate how aggressive she’d be. I know it’s only day 3 with Blaze, and it’s going to get better,  but it’s just hard. It helps t…[Read more]

That is definitely a significant outlier in neuter pricing. If there was a track-record of cheaper neuters being less successful, I could see people considering it; however, considering how routine and relatively simple neuters are, the existence of a $700-quoted neuter does not undermine the legitimacy and safety of a $300 or less neuter. Also,…[Read more]

Hi! I’m looking into getting my 5 mo bun, Hades, neutered.

I’ve been quoted a neuter for around $300 at one vet office, but the office that is nearest to my house and apparently is the best qualified (supposedly) is quoting me approximately $650 ($450-700 depending on how things go, optional things, etc).

I’m really torn. I think the $300 vet is…[Read more]

I actually doubt its about more protein. The difference in protein content between timothy hay and orchard is very minor (9% vs 10%).  I see a lot of wild bunnies abd their poop where I live, and its always a lot darker when the weather is damp compared to when its dry.  With my own buns I have seen a difference in poop color depending on how m…[Read more]

Thank you for your responses, everyone! 🙂

When I broke it apart, it was a brown color and it didn’t really smell. 🙂 The only thing that really worried me, was the color on the outside. I didn’t know if dark was bad! 😆 In the slide show though, it said that she’s getting too much protein? She has unlimited Orchard Grass Hay, for my…[Read more]

One trick with really feisty buns is to put one hand on the buns head so their eyes are covered (position them so their bum is facing you). Usually that will stop them from trying to run away.

Ditto what Bam said. If they both eat plenty of hay, you can feed both only hay. If there is a concern about not eating enough, you can eliminate one element of the diet at a time instead to see if something specific is triggering it. Which bun was it that was being somewhat picky about hay?

Those poops do seem like they are extra moist, and yes…[Read more]

The timings seem great! I really love that they’re almost equal in length. It’s just that many bunnies sleep in the afternoon, so maybe you could make the morning shift a little earlier and the night shift a little later if that’s possible? But overall, you’re doing great!

I think 2 shifts are good, but I would probably extend the evening out-time, since the evenings as a rule are when we have time to really hang out with our buns. It can however feel a bit unfair if one bun always gets the morning shift and the other one gets the evenings. Hopefully this situation will be very temporary for you though.

    When I had…[Read more]

The poop looks healthy enough! It does look a bit dark, but that’s not a cause for concern unless the poop is smelly/ mushy.

Hi guys. So Esther is usually out almost all day, but now that Blaze is here, they need to split the out time. Is doing two shifts okay? It would probably be from 7:30AM- 1:30PM then 1:30PM-7:30PM. Are those okay timings? I could potentially have one of the buns out later at night, because 7:30 is just about when I feed them their dinner.  What…[Read more]
