Thank you all so much for your prompt responses! When I say that the vet is the highest rated in my area I mean that they have 4.5 stars and the other three vets are rated as either a 3.5 or 2 star with many allegations of animal mistreatment, neglect, and overcharging. I know in most cases spaying a rabbit is best for their health, but it would…[Read more]

Hmm… I think a bunny would actually be a good companion for you while you’re doing virtual classes. I guess the real question is, do you have a plan for when you go back to in-person classes or when you graduate. A bunny is a long-term commitment, so you would need to have a plan in place. Otherwise, I don’t really see why you couldn’t get a…[Read more]

Hi everyone, Bernard was laying with her feet out and I noticed a sore spot on her foot. Is it sore hocks? I don’t know how she got it, she doesn’t have a cage but I use a rug (pictured above) and blankets wherever she will be. She never walks on my hardwood floor.
Any advice would be appreciated 😊-Marissa

You should not separate them since they are now bonded. It could disrupt the bond, and the marking would probably start again once she was there.
I’m thinking all the marking is due to them being a very new bond. Usually things settle down with time… Are you 100% sure they are fully bonded?
I wonder if you could clean the area super well with…[Read more]

I think it would be most important to consider what will happen to the rabbit once you return to in-person classes (and beyond). I think it’s normal to want to get a rabbit when you are home all the time, but rabbits can live 9-12 years, so thinking about care for the rabbit for it’s entire life is very important.
Being in college is not always…[Read more]

If you go on trips often a rabbit might not be for you. Rabbits need consistent meals, and lots of out of pen time. They can’t be left alone for long, as their health can go downhill real fast. They are definitely not like cats, who are fine alone for a weekend.
Most rabbits will get along with cats and well-trained respectful dogs. If you might n…[Read more] -

@Ana700Luna I will ask at the rescue about the oldest rabbits we’ve had spayed. I know just recently there was a 6-7 year old. It really is about the vet’s comfort level and experience.
Have you had any blood work done on her?
I think if you were willing and able to have another rabbit live separately if they didn’t get along, it could be worth…[Read more]

Hi guys!
I’m new on here but I have read the other forums that are on here and had a question myself. I am a sophomore in college and will be staying home for the next 2 semesters doing virtual classes and then commuting from my school. My family and I currently own 1 cat and 2 dogs (Labernese & Bernedoodle), no kids only 4 adults, in a 2 story…[Read more]

Regarding the reasons to spay, I would say possibly bonding her is secondary to eliminating the cancer risk, so I would go for the spay, bonding or no bonding. I would give the other vets in your area a call, ask them if they would have issues with performing the surgery. If not, ask them how many rabbit spays/neuters they do and what their…[Read more]

Hello everyone! I have two free-roam bunnies named Bugsy and Baloo (both spayed/neutered). I have had Bugsy for two years now and her litter box habits were basically perfect from the moment I brought her home. Two months ago I adopted Baloo to be Bugsy’s companion and they immediately hit it off, the bonding process was easy peasy and they are so…[Read more]

Oh! I totally forgot to respond to something else you mentioned, DanaNM:
As I stated in my previous reply, I live in a very small town. The closest rabbit rescue is 1 hour away. I’ve been to most shelters in my area and none of them have rabbits because rabbit breeding for “agriculture” (consumption 😥 ) is unfortunately very popular here, and…[Read more]

I really do want to get her spayed, but I live in a small town and there are only 4 vets who specialize in rabbit care. The vet I go to now is the highest rated. He said that Jasmine was in incredible health for her age, but since she’s so small and so old (3.3 pounds, 8 years old) the risks of spaying her outweigh the benefits. He also couldn’t…[Read more]

I agree about seeing if another vet would spay her. It’s unfortunate they turned her away when she was six, as that’s not too old, my girl was spayed a few months ago and she’s six.

It used to be more common to bond neutered males with unspayed females, back in the day when very few vets would spay. And we do occasionally see situations where it happens still, such as a case where the female can’t be spayed for health reasons.
If you do try, it would definitely need to be with a castrated rabbit. Maybe an older neutered male…[Read more]

How old is she? Could she be hitting puberty?
Often when buns hit puberty their box habits go out the window.

Ok that’s good. The smelly smell I was talking about is more a manure smell, almost like cow poop!
The smushed one could have been an uneaten cecotrope. The fact that the others had hay in them is great.
