I understand the hormone thing.  I just keep second guessing and wondering if it’s a bad decision overall to try to bond another rabbit with him.  He is happy and healthy, but I always hear rabbits are better in pairs.  However I have now just read that Flemish giants are better off by themselves…not sure if this is true or not.  I just want to…[Read more]

Thank you everyone! Although it has only been a day, I am seeing some improvement. I mostly interacted with her beside her cage yesterday and she was super sweet all day. To test the waters, I let her out a bit today and she is no longer chasing me–just coming up for pets and strangely enough acting like she wants to be held in my lap! haha!

    It…[Read more]

A sanitary shave could help him get back on track with his grooming. I think sometimes when they get matted it just overwhelms the poor bun. Plus having waste stuck on puts them at risk for fly strike etc.

They also might be able to help address whether there is an underlying medical problem that is preventing him from grooming properly (maybe a…[Read more]

I don’t think you should separate them. It would be very stressful for them and would hurt their recovery. Plus they have both already been exposed to the infection, so I don’t see a benefit to separating.

Once she is spayed, you will most likely be able to bond them. It’s very rare for pairs to be completely unbondable.

I think Wick was trying to say it would be very challenging to bond her before she is spayed, or at least very risky. The concern is usually that all goes fine until the female hits puberty, and then her hormones can trigger…[Read more]

I would block access (x-pens work well for this). Digging is a normal and fun behavior for buns, so it will probably be easiest to just keep her off the bed if she’s ruining things.

It’s harder with babies because you don’t know what their personality will be, whereas with adults, you’ll have a better idea of their personality and how it will mesh with you existing rabbit. You should be able to bond then after she’s spayed, but I wouldn’t bother trying until then.

I know it’s only been a few short hours but it seems as if we’ve made some progress!  Tig ran around for about an hour last night before we went to bed, and for the first time explored Zoey’s bed and her toys.  This morning after we had let Tig out, my wife held her on the couch and we let Zoey out of the bedroom.  She came over to my wife, and nu…[Read more]

Hello all, I haven’t posted in a while but recently my 6yr old Holland Lop, Pascal, has been having worse grooming issues. He is slightly overweight and has never been good about grooming himself but the most recent time he had a few bad mattes, and has had poop getting caught up in his endless shedding. He is on a diet and is by no means a lazy…[Read more]

There’s always a possibility you may be able to, but you need to keep in mind that as she progresses through puberty, the dynamic of the relationship can change and may require you to intervene and separate them to varying degrees.

Wick…do you think I can’t bond them at all or just not until she is spayed?  I haven’t gotten her yet so I’m trying to decide if this is a bad idea before I commit and pick her up.

I have a loft, so the buns don’t have access to my bed, but they dig at their own blankets. Some people just need to block off couches or beds, or maybe you could cover your bed with a older/cheaper blanket or sheet so she would dig that instead? The digging could also be something that lessens after her spay.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Two rabbits humping each other in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 9 months ago

Humping is not a sex-linked behavior for rabbits, nor is it always sexual. Female and male rabbits will hump other female and male rabbits as a sign of dominance. It’s important that if there is a lot of humping, the two rabbits are working out their hierarchy. Most likely, this will also include potentially biting/nipping/fighting, so you must be…[Read more]

You most likely cannot bond her to him, as her hormones will make it extremely challenging once they emerge. Young rabbits pretty easily get along with other rabbits, making the appearance that all is well, but when hormones hit, the relationship may change. There’s also the possibility that the presence of an unfixed rabbit will make your current…[Read more]

My two rabbits were both diagnosed with snuffles last week, and one of them has it worse due to his age (10 years old). My other rabbit is 2 years old. I know that infected rabbits should be separated from healthy rabbits, but is it necessary to separate them if they both have snuffles? My only concern is that one of them has it worse…not sure…[Read more]
