My girl, Esther, also had uterine cancer before being spayed. It was quite bad and she likely wouldn’t have lasted long if she hadn’t been spayed when she was 🙁 . She’s around 6 years old. Her surgery went very well and she had no problems after.
I recently started fostering another rabbit in hopes of bonding him with Esther, and we’ve been ma…[Read more]

Ah, I understand. Any sudden behavior change is good to take notice of. Could she have maybe sprained something when jumping down?
And just to confirm… is she spayed?
Any source of pain could cause a change in behavior, so in addition to thinking about tummy issues, and getting some baseline blood work, I would have her teeth checked as well.…[Read more]

Oh no, the vet wasn’t the one who brought up the cremation, I was. I’ve been so paranoid with Luna’s mortality that I’m trying to get everything in order in my head, so that when it happens, I’ll be ready. But I think it’s making me even more paranoid. I’ve gone into a loop.
The arthritis possibility crossed my mind a few times, but Luna was…[Read more]

Lots of bunnies will pee on soft things, unfortunately, so they might just not be good candidates for having their own bed.

I’m so sorry you had such a rough experience at the vet, they sound like a real piece of work! And obviously not someone who cares about rabbits! I have some senior buns myself, and I obsess over them, so I know how you feel. You are doing a great job, try not to feel guilty! I have gone through the same feelings with mine (is this normal aging or…[Read more]

Luna is the love of my life.
She’s a 7 year old lionhead who’s never been anything short of delightful. She’s cheerful, obedient (for the most part) and so, so loving and caring. She will never hesitate to lick my hand, face or clothes when I come near her, she hops right to my side in the morning when we first see each other, she always likes to…[Read more]

Hi there, welcome 🙂
Regardless of your decision to bond, spaying (the term for castrating a female) is important in female rabbits, as they have very high rates of reproductive cancers (about 75% by age 6). She is not too old to be spayed, as long as your vet if experienced with spays. So you will need to call around and find a good vet, and you…[Read more]

Hello fellow bunny people,
Its my first time posting on one of these forums but I am in the process of making an important decision regarding my bunny and would be appreciative of any advice.
I have a 5.5 year old, female dwarf lop and I’m thinking about getting her a companion.
Some background:

Thank you DanaNM. Yeah I’m pretty sure the pellets at the rescue were alfalfa based. It’s possible that it could be the issue. I can try that today and see what happens.

She is taking metacam twice a day (today is the last day per the vet’s instructions). It has been a hassle to give it to her, she hates it.
I’ll refresh her hay today and continue to giver her veggies and pellets. The way she’s moving and acting makes me thing she’s no longer sore, but I may be wrong.

Try the alfalfa! Not trying to use Pinky as a guinea pig, but I’m very interested to hear if it works.
I think I also remember that his pellets at the rescue had alfalfa in them? So maybe the shift away from that was what triggered the yucky poops?

At this point, keeping her eating is the most important (and very good she’s pooping and peeing), so offering her extra veg and pellets is good for now. You could also offer some critical care on a spoon or a plate (some bunnies love it).
Refreshing the hay pile often seems to help some buns eat more hay (vs. having just one big pile or a rack…[Read more]
