This will be a bit long, so bare with me.

I have one old rabbit (Piko M, 11 years in February) and on October 14th acquired two young rabbits (Len M/Rin F, 5 months now) to be his companions for the rest of his life. I know the age difference isn’t ideal, but long story…[Read more] -

Thank you for responding. It isn’t open, it seems to be scabbed over like it was prior to antibiotics. But she is still favouring it which has me worried. I won’t be able to get her into her regular vet for at least another week- do you know if rabbits can wait that long with sore hocks?

Thank you Bam, happy bunny new year to you as well!!
I’m 99% sure he’s drooling. His fur is wet around his mouth and he has slight fur loss on his chin, and there’s a little bit of an odor. I’m going to do my best to keep his chin dry, and I also have a antimicrobial spray that I used on his dewlap when he got a skin infection on his dewlap…[Read more]

He’s doing a lot better this morning surprisingly!! I actually woke up to the sound of him eating and digging in his cage, a big display of energy that I haven’t seen in a while. He totally snarfed his CC down and climbed into my lap demanding more. His anus is still inflamed and his poops are kind of wet looking but they are fully round/formed…[Read more]

I dont think you can do much atm except make sure her area is clean and dry and (reasonably) soft. A sore hock is an emergency when there is an actual open sore. Since it’s a New Year’s Eve today its probably difficult to get to see an ER vet.
If she has spondylosis she will probably need to be on a low dose of metacam always.

Hello!
Rosa is a 4 yrs old spayed rabbit. When I found her 4 years ago her vet suspected EC and she got the typical 28 day treatment. Fast forward to 3 months ago, I took her to the vet because of hind leg weakness. Her X-rays suggested that one of her kidneys were calcified (and later confirmed with an ultrasound), and the other is slightly…[Read more]

I’m sorry he is unwell. I’d give whatever probiotics you have at home now, in the hope that they could make some difference. Was he prescribed famotidine (pepcid) together with his meloxicam? Vets often prescibe that to protect the stomach lining from the meloxicam.
It’s just awful that it’s so difficult to get vet care for a rabbit during the holidays.

Today was terrible. He’s hardly wanted any of his CC. When I got home a couple of hours ago there was awful messy poop, totally unformed, all over my room and his butt. I cleaned everything the best I could. His anus is so inflamed. I gave him a dose of meloxicam and he did willingly eat 20ml of his CC. He’s eating some hay right now but only…[Read more]

So I caught my rabbit limping about three weeks ago. I took her to the emergency vet and they did x rays and checked her out. The X-rays determined that it was spondylitis. At the time I pointed out her hock, it had a small black speck on it. But they didn’t seem to have much of a problem with it. They did give me antibiotics and some pain m…[Read more]

I got alfalfa hay today and he does like it! I’m mixing small amounts into his regular hay and crossing my fingers that he doesn’t just pick out the alfalfa and leave the other hay.
I hope it’s okay for me to let this out.. I love him so much, and this has also been really hard for me. I don’t mind the extra work of cleaning his cage twice a…[Read more]

Thank you, that is helpful!
With that confirmation that this all started around the time you went from 3 to 2 buns, I do think it’s worth a shot to do some neutral-territory sessions with them. Perhaps take them on a journey to a friend or family members house and spend the weekend with them there?
It’s also possible that this is just YoungBun…[Read more]

Does she spend almost all of her time in her cage? Even “huge” cages sold for rabbits are too small. The cage should be at least 12 sq ft area and long enough that they can take three hops in one direction without turning. Flooring needs to be solid but soft. Memory foam bathmats topped with fleece fabric are very good for sore hocks. Rabbits need…[Read more]
