I’m sorry Winston has an eye infection. The cause is often hay, but it could perhaps be the bedding or practically anything that can cause a scratch on the eye, where ambient, otherwise harmless, bacteria can start to grow. The recent neuter has put a little bit of strain on his immune defense, so that could have contributed.
Most of us here…[Read more]

Hello, I just brought Winston to the vet and he now has an eye infection after finally just finishing the 2 weeks of limited fun time with being neutered. With covid happening I have yet to be able to go into the vet to learn more about how to do things for my bun since I’m a new bunny mom. I’m worried I’m not going to be able to get the drops…[Read more]

So, yesterday BJ and Bonnie did very well together, and Coop and Myra did very well together. Last night I decided to put BJ back with Myra and Coop with Bonnie. BJ and Myra were wonderful and back to normal. I realized BJ hadn’t really been eating his salad when separated from Myra but wolfed it down once they were together. Coop and Bonnie also…[Read more]

Stressors can dampen the immune system and cause something to flare up, so anything you feel you can do to relax him may be helpful. There’s also the understanding that he may adjust to the noise and things that are happening. If there is a lot of air irritants, definitely make sure there is good ventilation where he is.

Is there a more quiet area of the house you can move him to? Does he seem better in the evening once things quiet down?
8 is senior for sure, but he might have several more years in him, so don’t despair.

well I really want to post poop pictures and a video of him eating because isn’t it just the best thing to see a bunny eat after not eating??? I LOVE the sound of happy chewing.
Is there a trick to posting pictures in replys? It just keeps saying not allowed.
Thank you so much Bam. It is so lonely to have sick animals, especially with co…[Read more]

It does sound like he is improving. It also sounds like you are capable of caring for him yourself, since you are a nurse and knows what to look out for (hypothermia, dehydration, lethargy, a distended stomach -a bun’s abdomen should be very soft always.)
It is great that he drinks, but it may not be enough with oral fluids. If there is some sort…[Read more]

Ok hi! Thank you!
I called the vet and while they are willing to see him, they really don’t see rabbits. They are willing and can probably do an xray but can’t do labs. oof. I live in Humboldt county which is very rural and 5 hours away from the bay area, just to emphasize that there aren’t other easy options.
I did have pain meds and I gav…[Read more]

We will be here!
Make sure your bun is kept warm – a poorly bun can get hypothermic, which is very dangerous.
Simethicone is good, reglan is, as you are saying, best held off on until you’ve seen a vet. Proper care for a GI stasis bun is fluid therapy with sub q fluids, often with an added vitamin B-complex. If the bun has a low temp, the fluids…[Read more]

The vet gets in at 7, I’ll go as soon as they can see me. It’s 4:45 now.
my bunny frank jr. turned 9 December 1.
he was acting totally normally last night. He gets a tiny piece of banana that he runs for morning and night. He came for his banana. In the past, refusal of his banana has been and early sign that he was sick.
He gets puzzle boxe…[Read more]

Hi Xxventanaxx! Great to see you again! I can barely belive that little Lux is 5 years, it seems like just yesterday she was a little baby 💗
A weepy eye can have many reasons. Something can have irritated the eye, often a strand of hay. A tear duct can have become clogged.
You can first of all try rinsing the eye with saline eyewash for humans,…[Read more]

Hi there guys! So glad the site is back up. Decided to look if it was randomly and bam! Anyways my 5 year old Lux all of a sudden on her right eye the hair is a little sticky wet. Nothing too big or colored but it kind of worries me. We check her teeth and they look great but just wondering if this is something we should take her to the vet for.
