- yes, that means just letting them live as they are now until they seem calm and relaxed in their surroundings.
- I would start prebonding once they seem relaxed in their current arrangement. And continue on until they are bonded. You should wait to start bonding session until both bunnies seem pretty relaxed about pre-bonding. After a while…

Thanks for replying! I’m glad that there’s nothing too crucial about it, and, yeah, I initially had trouble trying to find a rabbit whose caretaker could assure confidently the sex of the rabbit, but now I understand! I’m glad that things don’t have to change too much because Toasty is a boy. Thank you!

Thank you Wick and Dana! I’m a lot more hopeful about this bonding process now.
Some follow-up questions:
- I still don’t fully understand what exactly the “settle in” means. English is not my 1st language, but I do understand the meaning, just not the meaning in this context. If I understand correctly, it’s the time before pre-bonding, where…

ridia replied to the topic How to Know if These Rabbits Are Right For Me? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 8 months ago
I agree with these other answers! Unfortunately, my rabbit was never shy, mostly just food-motivated. He liked being around me but not when I would try to pick him up, groom him, or pet him. The only thing I could do for at the most a month was fed him and make sure he had everything he needed. He was actually kind of sassy and didn’t like me for…[Read more]

This is a super common thing! Young rabbits are often mis-sexed. I recently helped at an RHDV vaccine clinic and we had a few people that we had to tell “Did you know your bunny is a boy?”.
Nothing different care-wise (aside from the castration, which is actually easier with boys), and I think Toasty is an adorable name either way. 🙂

I actually find Toasty to be a unisex name, but also, names are names 🙂
Mis-sexing rabbits is very, very common, regardless of how experienced someone is. They are just so small and furry, and the parts themselves are generally small until they develop in an obvious way (i.e. bumps become testicles and descend). My Wick’s testes didn’t descend…[Read more]

So this is my first time creating a topic and whatnot, so I’m sorry if there are any inconveniences!
Anyway, I’ve had my bunny Toasty for maybe 4-5 months. She was born in July so she is around 5-6 months old. We decided to get her spayed today, so we sent her to the vets. She will be there for 3 days. But today they contacted me and told me that…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Do bonded males need neutering in the forum BONDING 5 years, 8 months ago
Yes they do. I’m guessing you have a pair of brothers who are still very young? If so, get them neutered as young as possible (also be aware that young rabbits are often mis-sexed). Often when they hit puberty they start fighting, but if you can neuter right away the chances that they will be able to stay together are better.

Yes, any two rabbits, regardless of sex, should both be spayed/neutered before starting the bonding process. Once they are, they will not automatically “bond”, but you can start the bonding process. More information about bonding basics and steps can be found in the RABBIT INFO section of the website.

Thanks for filling out the template! 😎
I agree with Wick, the male-male thing doesn’t matter as much, it’s probably more down to personalities. I know of lots of very happy male-male bonds. Sometimes I wonder if that idea came about before neutering was common. It’s very rare for a bond to be impossible, it’s just a question of how much work it…[Read more]

On no 🙁 I’m so sorry. 🙁
Are you in an area with RHDV?
With very young rabbits it could have been a number of things, they are very fragile, especially if taken away from mom too soon.
Very sorry for your loss. 🙁

I second what Dana says. I had a bun who refused hay, I gave him fresh grass on his vet’s orders. It was a bit tricky during winter, but since we rarely get snow here, it was possible, albeit with some effort. I used to go out in the dark and cut grass behind a school building 🤣

In actuality, male to male bonds are possible, but male-female just tend to be easier. There can definitely be male-male bonds that work out easier than some male-female bonds– there are many factors at play with bonding, so don’t let the sex match-up dishearten you.
This sounds a lot like my pair Wick (male) and Fable (female) in many ways!…[Read more]

Hello,
I’m trying to bond 2 male rabbits. Pi is my first rabbit – Netherland Dwarf of ~3 years, and I got him when he was very little. Recently I got Dorian of ~1.5 years from a friend who rescues cats and rabbits regularly, and just had too many animals at home. Both are males and I heard that it’s virtually impossible to bond them. But with all…[Read more]
