Many rescues also have a good sense of whether dogs are good with cats. So if they know a dog is good with cats that might be a good starting point!

It might be better to set them up side by side in the rabbit room, and then use the bedroom as a space for bonding sessions, as that sounds pretty neutral?

Your current bun might be annoyed at first, but part of the process will be her getting used to another bun being in “her” turf.

Totally agree Pinkiemarie! My cat is never allowed to lay a paw on the buns (squirt bottle is essential) but they are definitely allowed to boss him around if he gets in their space!

I also have to be aware of why types of hides I give them and where I put them. At one point I got a hide for the buns but my cat just saw it as a perfect place to…[Read more]

So today I was holding Lux and noticed a bump above her eyelid directly above where the wetness is at. It looks kind of like a scab or a pimple. Could that be what was causing the eye wetness? Like it was leaking. Her wet eye isn’t sticky anymore so I think maybe it’s that. Can rabbits get pimples or a bump overnight?

I have to disagree that cats and rabbits should not be introduced because I have 3 of each in my house and we’re doing fine. That said, depending on your cat’s personality she may need a lot of training. Introduce their scent to each other now so it isn’t so shocking later. No unsupervised time until the cat is trained and trustworthy. Spray…[Read more]

I just came here to ask about the bunnies too! Please let your mom know that if you have a farm supply store in your area you can probably get a huge amount of hay really cheap so you don’t have to constantly worry about restocking.

To be totally honest, the best part of my bonded pair of watching how much they love each other. The second best part is how much they love me 😀 they were an eternal comfort to each other and both of them will lay their heads down together in front of me for group pets. Give them time to settle in and get to know you and I’m sure you’ll be…[Read more]

My rabbit doesn’t have access to the whole house but she has definitely been in most primary areas. I will have to experiment a little I guess.

I was thinking of using my bedroom as a temporary housing for both and using a playpen to separate them, and use the bathroom or any other open spaces for bonding sessions. My rabbit lived in my room for about a few months a year ago but hasn’t been there since so I hope that will work for housing till they’re bonded and I can move them to the rabbit room.

Thank you for the input! We are definitely trying to stay away from sporting breeds because of our family’s more mellow lifestyle. The point of adult dogs having a more established personality is a very good point, so we may look into older dogs because puppies are little bundles of energy!

DanaNM … Thank you so much for the information and all your advice! I will 100% give it a try with the carrier. Hopefully it won’t be so traumatic for them if they can get to playtime without having to be picked up. I’ll also post on this thread again once I have had a chance to do some bonding sessions to update you on the process!

Thanks for the update! It does sound like an interesting relationship, but not too out of the ordinary. In bonded pairs it can be hard to tell who is dominant (sometimes I’m convinced they both think they are). It does sound like they are friends and enjoy each other’s company. 🙂

Yes I know the struggle of a no neutral space well!

Bathrooms seem to be the way to go… even if buns have access to them they typically don’t spend much time there, and they are easy to clean with vinegar to remove any smells. Lots of people end up bonding their bunnies in the bathtub since that’s the only neutral space they’ve got!

    You can…[Read more]

I would probably say no terriers or sporting breeds (of course there are personality exceptions to every breed though). Definitely no greyhounds!  With mixed pups it’s very hard to tell breeds often times.

I know puppies are so fun… but you’d have a better sense of personality and prey-drive if you get an adult.
