That’s a good question. I should try again. Not in the past but who knows. He’s acting really normal and relaxed tonight. Stretched out and flopped in front of the fire, and not in the scary gas kind of way. Even tried to trick us into second banana, when last night he didn’t want it at all.
I’ll mix up some critical care and see if he’ll go for it.

With that history I imagine his teeth could definitely be part of the problem or the root cause. Sometimes even the tiniest molar spur will make a bun not want to chew certain things. It’s also something that you could provide supportive care for until his vet gets back from maternity leave.
Will he eat critical care willingly? I would opt to…[Read more]

nova n abras mom started the topic 2 bonded neutered females get a third bun? in the forum BONDING 5 years, 8 months ago
we have 2 bonded females and were asked to adopt a third from a friend. Has anyone done this successfully. Our rabbits our litter trained and free roam. They were adopted together already bonded and have had a difficult time whenever someone comes to the house. They do not like change! However, they are really good with out dogs and vice versa.…[Read more]

Okay, thanks a bunch. For now I’ll side swap them and maybe start ‘through-fence’ dates in another week so they get used to side-swapping first? Or should I start both and if they react badly to dates, do just side-swaps for some time?

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Male-male bonding help needed in the forum BONDING 5 years, 8 months ago
Size difference typically doesn’t mean too much in my experience and recollection. My Wick is 2.5lbs and Fable is 7.5lbs. There definitely seemed to be a period where Wick had to learn her movements weren’t harmful but whether that was heavily influenced by her size is unknown. I dont see weight as something that could heavily deter a bond!

Small update – tomorrow I start swapping sides, after two weeks of toilets and bowls swapping. I think Pi is curious instead of aggressive as before. He would sometimes lunge at the door if he heard Dorian was there. Now he seems calmer and curious if I’m reading him correct – curiously approaching the door, sniffing, sitting near it. Still a bit…[Read more]

Thank you – both of you. Hay tea great idea! He has a terrible hay appetite, always has! I actually found a type that he seem to like more than he ever has but still a fraction of what he should.
He hasn’t had a dental exam in a bit. And if his vet was available I’d have his mouth checked for sure. He slowly went off food 2 years ago, st…[Read more]

Yes! this was the first time feeding him something in a syringe and I’m surprised he did so well (it was probably because he could smell his favorite herbs 😆 )

Hi there, welcome 🙂 I think you covered most of it, but there is a pinned “Bonding template” in this section that asks a few questions that will be helpful to know!
In your case, since it sounds like the buns are both a bit anxious, I would recommend doing full on pre-bonding and pause physical bonding sessions for now. So instead of just…[Read more]

Ah, so stressful, I’m sorry you are dealing with this!
Unfortunately vet visits are a commonly cited reason for a bond breaking, especially in a new couple. He probably smells very different to her so she isn’t recognizing him.
But don’t panic just yet. Here’s what I would try first. Take a towel and rub it all over Mimi. Then rub it all over…[Read more]

Lol!
It’s very good to train buns by letting them drink sth they like from a syringe -in case they ever get poorly, they are a lot more likely to accept meds or critical care by syringe if they’ve had that training.

feireia replied to the topic Marathon bonding with an anxious rabbit in the forum BONDING 5 years, 8 months ago
Good to know! I’m glad Pekoe isn’t as nervous as he was when we started these marathon sessions, but that may be because I moved them back into their initial space after a deep clean. It’s funny (and odd) that Pekoe always bows his head for grooms and (supposedly) wants to be the dominant one, but he doesn’t display the typical dominant behaviors…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Minimal chasing after bonding in the forum BONDING 5 years, 8 months ago
Gotcha! Yeah that kind of circling means they aren’t quite there yet. Freshly forming bonds can be a bit tense at times. Are you seeing positive behaviors from them as well, like cuddling and grooming?
Sometimes I think they get a bit anxious and bored in the small bonding spaces. You might experiment with giving them a bit more space part of the…[Read more]

The top rabbit is named Jayjay (Holland Lop, 2 yrs, Male, fixed) he is the Excitable one and newest rabbit to the household.
The bottom rabbit is named Touka (Netherland dwarf, 5 yrs, female, spayed) and she has been with us since a couple weeks old and is extremely attached to me, however as our personalities bleed into our pets a bit, I’m…[Read more]
