It doesn’t let me upload a pic of the bunny room, oh well. I have seen people use those concrete building tubes as tunnels on Facebook, but it was too late since I had already bought a big cat tunnel. I live in New York, so I’ll have to see if I can find anything (safe) outside!

I originally planned on letting him roam the room during the day and…[Read more]

Yes that sounds like the right weight for a Dutch but that’s definitely bigger than a dwarf. Dwarf rabbits are usually going to be less than 1kg full grown so keep in mind that if you were reading about the amount of food needed for a dwarf she’ll probably need more than that.

I’m so sorry. Unfortunately rabbits like to hide when they’re sick so we don’t know if they need help. You knew what to look out for and you did everything you were supposed to.

I think structural changes are a good idea! My buns really like tunnels. I am currently in a similar situation, where I’m staying with my in-laws with 4 rabbits (AHH!), so the buns are in a room vs. having more of the house to roam in. To keep things interesting, I got some concrete building forms and made a cross shaped tunnel that they have been…[Read more]

It sounds like it’s going quite well to me!

Sometimes they will groom in preparation to mount, so that sounds like what’s going on here. A little fur might be pulled when they mount as well. Just keep doing as you have been! If he reverse mounts, you can try spin him around so he’s in the correct position. I usually don’t stop regular mounting…[Read more]

    Update:

1/23/21 – Later in the evening we did a second session in the bathtub (30 min) because the buns seemed chill – it started well, Alfredo was grooming Theo enthusiastically, and Theo turned into a loaf because he was comfortable. We put some banana on top of their heads, and finally got Theo to “groom” Alfredo a bit. Alfredo then mounted…[Read more]

It sounds like you were monitoring the health behaviors you should have been, and if something happens even when those behaviors are present, as LBJ mentions, it was likely something beyond your control that could not have been prevented or foreseen. It’s clear you cared for her very much. Binky free lovely bun~

I doubt it was the food. If she was otherwise acting normally (eating, pooping, etc.) then it was probably something beyond your control. Are you in an area where RHDV is a problem? That would explain a sudden death. Otherwise, it could have been something wrong with her heart or other major organ.

I see, thank you! While we do school from home my sister and I do try to spend as much time with him as possible. Even if we’re with him, he will still sit by the door if he hears my brother or parents in another room, but it makes sense.  I’ll just keep experimenting with different toys and structures to keep him busy, and take a look at some…[Read more]

My bun is gone. Please help me put my mind at ease.

I left to go work out and when I came home she was dead. She’s been eating fine, and had normal droppings. The only thing I changed recently is buying a bag of select series “pro” feed a few weeks ago because their “sho” variant was out of stock. I also noticed her moving her bedding around be…[Read more]

AH! This is my first time bonding buns, and we just had our first bonding session. Here’s how it’s going…

Alfredo: 5 years old, Male, Neutered 9/2/17

Theo: 7 months old, Male, Neutered 12/21/20

    Timeline:

Theo was in the living room (away from Alfredo) before his neuter. A week or so after his neuter, he moved into Alfredo’s room (…[Read more]

I think using grids to build some hidey houses and places to climb is a great idea! It is secure as long as you get good quality grids that are all square, snap together, and use zip-ties to extra hold the grids together. There are a lot of options for how to floor those structures as well, and there are some examples in the RABBIT INFO section of…[Read more]

Well.. not sure if one room counts as free roaming but I cleaned out the spare room for Timothy to live in and I use his old x-pen around the door since he tends to scratch on the door and sneak out with us when we leave the room. I’m trying my best to let him have as much space as possible but it’s hard because I can’t bunny proof the rest of the…[Read more]
