I agree that it does seem like a high dose of Panacur. I would definitely talk to your vet and tell them your concern. I remember when Dana had a problem with her vet prescribing the wrong dosage.

As for Borax, I have not heard of this being used for medical purposes. At least not internally and not in rabbits.

Boys tend to bounce back really fast. Sometimes a little too fast. They feel great and want to run and jump. But it’s important to keep him from doing that for the first few days to give the stitches some time to heal. Sometimes this requires confinement, unfortunately.

Incontinence isn’t age-related. Only a secondary symptom of some things that come with age. I agree that 7 isn’t super old for a rabbit. But depending on their size, arthritis can start to creep in around this age. Arthritis can make it difficult for them to get in and out of the litter box.

Although EC can flare up at any age, it seems the risk…[Read more]

I hadn’t mentioned but he does get a lot of grass and hay, again since they are outdoor they have full access to grass and such (I made sure all the plants we own are rabbit safe), I just listed some of his favorite treats. He also has chews which wear his teeth down.

For citrus fruit I wasn’t aware so I will cut that back as he only has started…[Read more]

Un-castrated rabbits do not form stable bonds due to their hormonal fluctuations, so it’s never recommended to try to bond an unspayed or neutered rabbit to another. Their bond was broken after the first fight, but it was likely not a fully formed strong bond to begin with. You need to fully separate them and let them forget the fighting. Do not…[Read more]

I know this isn’t the purpose of your post but your description of his diet is a bit concerning. Does he eat hay? Rabbits’ diet should be about 75-80% grass hay. Fruit only occasionally and citrus really shouldn’t be given. The issues with teeth are usually the back molars which are not possible to see with special tools and anesthesia. If he…[Read more]

You should really try to prevent him running and jumping, at least for the first few days. It is usually necessary to confine them to a pen or crate for the healing time.

Hi Hazel, nice to see you again! What are they treating him for? I’m not familiar at all with Borax suspension.

I used this drug calculator to check his Panacur dosage: https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/dosage and got that he’s getting 44 mg/kg, which does seem high. But then I don’t know what they are treating for? Usually for EC is’t 20…[Read more]

As a general FYI, in the veterinary field, rabbits do categorically fall under the “exotic” pet category, so a rabbit veterinarian should indeed be an exotic vet, as opposed to a standard dog/cat vet.

From what I’ve checked his teeth are fine, hes also very food motivated and actually has been eating foods he used not not like as a young bun (oranges) along with his usual, (pellets, orange leaves, apples, and such)

I’ve been skeptical about arthritis and just age related incontinence. I don’t 100% know if he is actually drinking excessively…[Read more]

Unfortunately, I think this is best discussed with the vet who prescribed it and letting them know transparently you have concerns about the recommended course relative to your past experience. As users here are not qualified vets, it would not be appropriate for us to recommend a certain course over what the veterinarian recommended without you…[Read more]

Hello everyone, some of you might remember me and my rabbit Oscar.

He has been losing his balance the last few days so the vet prescribed the usual round of dewormer and antibiotic. The strength seems to be a good bit higher than recommended, and the length of treatment shorter. My question is, should I lower the dose and treat him for longer…[Read more]

Hormones impact animals much more than humans can probably imagine– her being unspayed can definitely explain an unstable, volatile relationship. It is very similar to the complete “baby bond” phenomena, where two young rabbits are cuddling in the morning and then suddenly going into tornadoes that evening. Intact rabbits can also bring about…[Read more]

Hi everyone, I’m new here and am looking for some advice but also just some kind words of validation if anyone has them 😥 we’re pretty heartbroken right now. We got Rexford (neutered 2yo M) in Feb 23, and we got Jenny (unspayed 10mo F) in Aug 23. Despite her being unspayed, they were bonded gradually in around 3 weeks using the usual methods…[Read more]

Hmm… yes, the excessive drinking is definitely cause for concern. I agree with Dana, it could be kidney-related. EC can present as urinary incontinence sometimes. This is because EC can attack the kidneys. Rabbits can also just have kidney failure for one reason or another, but it seems less common. Dental issues can also cause excessive…[Read more]

I’m currently on the search for a vet, many in my area consider rabbits ‘exotic’ so it’s a little tricky. As for kidney issues, should I look out for other signs? The only difference I’ve been seeing in him is the potential scald and accessive drinking (which I had assumed was because he doesn’t drink during the day). Thank you for your help! 🙂

    Hi Peepz!

My mini rex rabbit recently just got neutered. 2 days ago now.

after 24hours he was already bouncing around haha… sadly my room is the only option that is safe.
And as he is a free roaming rabbit we never got a cage.

He jumped up once on my bed within 24 hours. Bed is only like 35cm off the ground.
Then 48 hours seems even more ok…[Read more]
