@Wick thanks for the quick reply! His cage has a lot of hay bedding for him and has cardboard around the exposed edges to maybe retain some sort of heat, I’m worried that this is not enough… I can always move the cage inside, I moved it inside a couple of times in December when my other bunny had GI Stasis, so it’s definitely easy to do so.…[Read more]

He left some cecotropes on the floor. Maybe it’s just difficult for him to eat them right now? Is this concerning or normal for a rabbit with an injury? He’s spent most of the day laying in the hidey house. Oh sometimes when he poops on the floor now he will eat them (normal poops). He’s done it a couple times a long time ago but started doing…[Read more]

For the immediate future, can you house your rabbit indoors overnight? That is definitely on the low side of what a rabbit can tolerate for temperature, especially for overnight periods. Is his cage well insulated?
I would recommend a vet visit as soon as you can to assess the ear mite situation actually. If it was not properly treated and…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
I woke up this morning and went to check on my bun. He stays in an indoor cage in the garage overnight, and I take him out to play indoors everyday for a minimum of 4/5 hours. This morning he was breathing noisily for a very short amount of time. The breathing wasn’t fast, it was rather slow, like one breath per second. I brought h…[Read more]

Bam that’s possible. For wound care I got the germi-stat, one small squeeze into two cups of water (I’ve been using warm) and using gauze to dip it in and clean it. The instructions I got were to do it once or twice daily. I’m doing morning and night with his meds. I’ve been using cotton rounds because I thought it was the same thing but I just lo…[Read more]

The chasing doesn’t escalate as long as Alfredo has enough room to run away (it will escalate if they only have 8 sq ft or less). I just put a couple more hiding places in their X-pen – Theo is pretty annoying to Alfredo about the attempts to chase/mount! If it’s just a matter of time, I hope he settles down soon for Alfredo’s sake! I feel like…[Read more]

Could the hole have gotten bigger as a result of the vet cleaning it and maybe flushing it out? What instructions for wound care were you given?
With animals you often get a small entrance wound that conceals a bigger would underneath, were bacteria can thrive and pus form.

Thank you DanaNM. I’m also a bit confused by it. You can see the broken skin around the white part, it’s like a crater. I’m not sure if the skin is growing on it, or if it’s pus on the flesh. I wasn’t able to go into the vet clinic because of covid, so I didn’t ask questions about the appearance because I couldn’t see it. I only saw the whole thi…[Read more]

Does the chasing escalate to anything if you don’t intervene? If not, then it’s just a bit of a waiting game. Tunnels and hides are a good solution (including things they can jump up on). Bun Jovi tries to mount Myra pretty much every night like clockwork. She will run away and usually hide on top of one of their hides after a bit, and then he…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Helping bun out of her comfort zone to flop more? Forceful or supportive? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 6 months ago
My two favorite grooming tools are the hair buster comb and a lint roller (the kind with peel off sticky sheets). One or the other works better on each of my bunnies. The kong “groom zoom” is also pretty good, but the fur flies all over the place so it’s kind of annoying to use.

DanaNM replied to the topic How do I litter train a stubborn rabbit? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 6 months ago
Can you describe the set up in his pen? During litter training it helps to have a hard smooth surface everywhere except the litter pan, so remove any blankets and beds. It also helps to make sure he can only access his hay while he’s inside his box, as most buns will pee and poop while they eat hay.
Soft litter like Carefresh also seems to be…[Read more]

Poor Muffin 🙁
I’m a little confused by what I’m looking at, is that white area pus? Or a scab?
Since you’ve been to the vet I would just advise to keep doing what they recommend. He could have gotten poked by something when jumping down that caused a small infection. Or perhaps got a worse bite from Pinky than you realized (but that seems…[Read more]

As a previous cat person (still one at heart) and now a 1st time bun owner, I found the amount of bun proofing to be the hardest part and biggest difference. They may not scratch up your couch, but they may chew your books, eat your plants, and will destroy your charging cables given a chance. That said, my bun Dorian likes to snuggle (not all buns…[Read more]

Update on the bonding:
So things have been pretty much the same the last three days – some times in the day they are both pretty sleepy so nothing much happens, and some times Theo is really active and just keeps going after Alfredo to mount. I’m trying to figure out how to get over this phase – any advice for the excessive chasing from Theo? I…[Read more]
