I agree with a pain med route. I admittedly am suspect of grindings done without anesthesia…. though I understand the rationale behind it. If they are a practice that feels comfortable doing that, I wonder if they’d be open to just doing quick isoflurane mask, instead of the big shebang of anesthesia. My Wick’s first vet was more lenient with…[Read more]

It’s his cheek teeth that they file. His jaw is misaligned & so the top tooth grows over the bottom one & eventually into his gum. It was this that caused the first infection/abscess.
He’s just had a drink of water by himself! That’s the first thing he’s voluntarily ingested in 36 hours! I nearly had heart failure watching him though. He couldn’t…[Read more]

24 hours later update!
Ahh! They have actually been pretty good the past 24 hours – after some chasing last night, Theo has been much more subdued with the chasing. He still follows Alfredo’s butt around, sometimes to mount but mostly for attention I think – he also hops around to Alfredo’s head but sometimes Alfredo is like nope I don’t have…[Read more]

Thank you a lot DanaNM. I think I will try to take those notes. I do notice the positive changes, so I will try to remind myself. I got him to lick the Emeraid from a spoon a few times. I’ve been giving him 6tsp of the powder now to try to get more water in him, and the nutrients.
That makes me feel a bit better, thank you.

My bunnies have gone from darker to lighter poo with different hay as well, even just with different quality of Timothy hay. It should be fine! Another thing you can check that is poo obsessed bunny people get to do is give it some time to dry then smoosh it. Does it crumble up like it’s supposed to? If it does then you’re all good!

Yeah, I would just keep getting the food into him and keep up the tummy rubs.
I’m pretty amazed they wouldn’t use anesthesia for his teeth…. Was it a molar trim or just his front teeth?

Thank you, that makes me feel less neurotic! I guess I can understand that they don’t want to put him under while his gut is bad, but surely if they get the pain meds right they can look at the teeth that were recently filed? They didn’t put him under for the file, he just chilled in a bunny burrito for it!
Think it’s going to be a long night on…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Should I be concerned? Old rabbit keeps trying to escape in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 6 months ago
The grass is always greener I suppose! My buns always want to go to the one area they aren’t allowed, even when they have a huge area filled with toys to explore.
It can help to try to change up his main area a bit (rearrange hides, add or remove tunnels, etc.), but I think bunnies just really want to explore everywhere!

Hello all! I’m not sure if this is the best category to post this thread, so apologies if it’s not! Lol
Anyway, older members will probably remember me, but for those of you who don’t know me, I have a mini dachshund (Snickers) and two, not bonded male rabbits, Loki and Finnegan. Finnegan is a feisty lionhead who isnt a fan of anybody, around…[Read more]

It is so so stressful caring for a sick bunny. I have found it helps to focus on the routine, and have my little checks at regular intervals to make sure things are stable or improving (like eating and pooping, grooming, other activity, etc.). It can help to keep notes, because it’s easy to lose track of gradual improvements.
So for example, with…[Read more]

Yeah of course she has been always cuddly and wanting pets but not like that 😅
I’m really sensitive person so I always want to give her everything she wants even if I have to do other stuff, I hate this. It’s like I love her too much but I give her all my attention and my day just passes by.
Do you think spaying her at like 6 months is…[Read more]

Spaying will probably calm it down (especially the nipping) but she will still be friendly and want pets.
You will probably notice some fluctuations in the behaviors, because her hormones will be fluctuating until she is spayed.
Don’t worry about having to spoil her all day. She will be OK if she doesn’t get her way all the time!

I think a stronger pain med and full assessment by the vet would be my first order of business tomorrow. It’s very strange that they said they wouldn’t even look at his teeth… if they continue to refuse you might want to get a second opinion (or ask for another vet at the same clinic).
I can understand not wanting to do unnecessary procedures,…[Read more]

DanaNM Thanks, I’ve been worried every time I look at his nose while syringe feeding him. Yeah it is a very small amount but it makes me feel better. I also squeeze some on his chin accidentally a few times when doing it, so it prevents a bit of waste.
I could let him hop all the way over to me when I feed him soon. It just makes me feel bad b…[Read more]

He’s been prescribed loxicom 1.4 mls twice daily, but it doesn’t seem to gave touched the pain. Maybe my first point of call should be a stronger painkiller tomorrow? Hopefully then poor Stew will feel less stressed & more likely to poop? It’s heartbreaking feeling him trying to rest his sore spot comfortably while we’re trying to syringe feed…[Read more]
