Susanne replied to the topic Drive or fly cross country? Having second thoughts… in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago

That’s a tough call.  I feel the quick way may be better than days of driving, but probably depends on what issues you could run into at the airport or delays. I think in the cabin makes it feasible, do you have a carrier you could maybe put padding around to keep out some light and noise? If it were mine, I’d prefer the flying route but have…[Read more]

Good to know. I have one that seeks out anything forbidden so I’ll have to keep this in mind. I hope yours recover quickly!!

    Hi everyone,

I’ve been very nervous about making our move from CA to MA with the bunnies, and now with all the insane storms I am even more nervous.

It would be about 7 days of driving (8-9 hours per day) with staying in motels, vs. basically a full 12 hour day of traveling if we fly (prob 4 hours driving total too and from airports, 9 hour trip…[Read more]

Oh goodness, maybe reach out the rescue? Maybe they know of a past adopter who would be willing to be a donor?

Hmmm, I think it could be either, but I’m leaning towards mushy cecotropes… it’s hard to tell from the pic though.

Some of my buns don’t like being brushed deeply, so when they are molting I put them on a table on a towel and do a really deep grooming probably twice a week. It seems like it’s better to just get as much hair as possible off in one go, rather than constantly pestering them with the comb.

They forgive me pretty fast since I give them a treat…[Read more]

Oh no! How stressful, and even more so with the conditions in Texas. 🙁

I’m glad they are starting to eat, hopefully that will keep pushing the bad stuff through!

    Hi everyone!

I  just want to give my fellow bunny owners a warning out of my horrific experience. I have four hilarious, beautiful, and precious bunnies. 2 sets of bonded pairs.  I had 1 pair free roaming and I went downstairs to do something, couldn’t even tell you what, and while I was out of the room these little bunnies knocked over my b…[Read more]

Muffin may need a blood transfusion from another big rabbit today, we don’t know if Pinky is healthy enough to do it yet. We are trying to find a big rabbit even if we need to adopt or foster. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can find one fast?

Thank you guys. Pinky had brownish stuff on his nose and paws maybe a month ago, he has it again today so we’re taking him to the vet for the afternoon. I thought before it was just poop he layed in or from eating his cecotropes because liquid usually comes out of his scent glands when he does that. But we’re taking him just to make sure he’…[Read more]

I’m so sorry, what a horrible situation. 🙁  I hope they will get the infection under control, poor little Muffin. Stay strong, we’re here for you!

Many rabbits get a bit of stomach upset when they shed. It’s not really known why, but it may be that the immune defense is involved somehow. If you think he has difficulty getting gas out, you can give simethicone baby gas drops, 0.5 -1 ml. It is bunny safe and widely used worldwide in the rabbit community.

Since he is shedding now, I’d prefer…[Read more]

Hi, first time poster so I apologize for the novel.

I adopted a bunny recently who is guessed to be betweeen 2-4 years old. He really hates being brushed (I’ve tried multiple kinds of grooming tools) and doesn’t really like to be touched very much sadly, but he sheds a lottt.  His mood and behaviour are unchanged, he is free roam and binkies and…[Read more]

It is extremely stressful to have a poorly rabbit.

Pasteurella is present in many if not most rabbits’ mouths and noses. In most rabbits they dont cause harm, but in some rabbits, or any rabbit under some circumstances (young rabbits with immature immune defense, rabbits in poor and stressful living conditions, rabbits with some other concurrent…[Read more]

Thanks so much. I think you’re right, some alone time for a few weeks sounds good. I’ve put a blanket over the playpen fence. I think I was struggling earlier with the shock of Maya’s injuries and the vet’s advice, my mind went straight to worst case scenario but I’m a bit less shocked now. I really hope you’re right. Thanks so much for everything xxxxx

I’m following this because I’m about to move as well!

When I have had very scared fosters at my place I tend to let them stay in their carrier as long as they want, and I’ll just put some food and water by the entrance. Then I usually leave them to settle in on their own for a few days. Of course your bunnies have a relationship to you, so you…[Read more]

It’s true that vets usually don’t know much about bonding, even very good vets.

With that new info I think I would go for a full separation of at least 3 or 4 weeks (ideally where they can’t see each other). This will help them forget each other somewhat and let old grudges heal. Keep an eye on them to make sure they aren’t getting depressed…[Read more]

Thank you guys. The staphylococcus aureus is the only information we got from the tests he had a while ago. The vet said the same thing Bam, and that it’s only an issue when there’s too much of it. For some reason I keep forgetting it’s a common bacteria because I was just told that it’s the bacteria causing his chin to flare up. Now I’m left here…[Read more]
