Kylie has Bunnies started the topic Stomach doughy, but she’s eating/drinking/pooping in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
Last night, I noticed my rabbit was not herself. I picked her up and noticed her stomach felt very tight and round. I gave her three doses of simethicone but didn’t see any improvement. This morning, the vet diagnosed illeus and sent her home with metoclopramide and SMZ TMP suspension after treating with SQ fluids.
She has been ea…[Read more]

We might actually not take him in tonight, I just spoke to the vet at the ICU and she said not to worry about it too much. She said to keep it clean and watch it, since we shouldn’t put him on antibiotics if he doesn’t need it. She said I can clean it with germi-stat, so I just did, using gauze.
For Muffin, the other day, there was a problem wit…[Read more]

I wonder if there is some weird reflection she sees that sets her off. Maybe a curtain would help. One of my buns gets freaked out very easily. One trigger is turning on a ceiling fan. I did it once and have not tried again for 3 months because how scared she got. :/

Some young bunnies are just… flighty. I don’t think it’s anything abnormal.

Another Update: We had a 2nd bunny date. Again, we were in our neutral territory, this time without the lettuce. Before hand, I did a little bit of stress bonding on the washer (however, it was really sad, to see them so afraid so I don’t know if I’ll do that again). Then, we went to our dating room. I petted them throughout and they did really…[Read more]

Thank you guys. My primary vets said I can give it to him, 1.75ml twice a day, 12 hours in between. We’re going to take him to an emergency vet tonight, since our vet is closed and he injured his nail. I found a torn piece on the floor with dried blood on it. His nail isn’t bleeding right now but the quick is black, the skin around is bruised, and…[Read more]

As Dana mentions, continuing to swap things is always good. You are getting the rabbits acclimated to each other’s scent, which is essential for bonding. Ending on good notes is really important as well, so keep with that judgement. In many bonding processes, negative interactions will happen as a part of them working things out, but trying to…[Read more]

I too have had good experiences with simethicone. It can be really difficult to gauge what issues would only need simethicone vs. it is something that it won’t remedy. For example, simethicone has been the only intervention I use for one of my rabbit’s gas episodes, but it can take up to 8 hours for him to get back to eating. If it is an issue…[Read more]

Considering her age, you probably have not had her for a while. She is in a new environment and needs to adjust to each new sound, smell, and experience. Remember that rabbits are on the ground, very low beneath us. When you are approaching the door, opening the door, and entering, who knows when she actually registers it is “you”, as opposed to a…[Read more]

My bunny:
So my 10 week old bunny is super outgoing, brave and loving. She doesn’t mind being picked up, she loves being stroked, she follows me all around the house, she knows how to do some basic simple tricks already and is always giving me bunny kissies and nose nudges, she we are always together, we have a very good bond.
The…[Read more]

I’ve always had good luck with simethicone, at least when it comes to simply gas issues. I told the vet I was using it and she just struggled. LOL

Hi there,
So if they are trying to fight and lunging at each other immediately, I would do more pre-bonding. And yes continue swapping throughout bonding sessions as well.
I would also probably try some stress sessions. Car rides can really work wonders (have a helper drive so you can make sure they don’t fight in the care). If you can do your…[Read more]

After his 5th escape he stopped jumping and things went very well for the rest of their time together 🙂 Clover did some proper polite nips but no biting!

I wish I knew regarding the tub! The tube has never worked that well for me for that reason. I have used an x-pen to try to block it, but it doesn’t really work that well.

I agree with pinkiemarie, that doesn’t sound too bad to me at all and sounds like a very normal early session.
Next session I would do lots and lots of petting and try to help them feel calm and relaxed (it will help you too). If one goes to mount, as long as it’s not face mounting, let it happen. But if the mounted bun tries to get away, then…[Read more]
