I apologize if this slight necro-post is not allowed. Just an update.

So the female Netherland Dwarf Psyron got injured during a trio bonding session and doesn’t trust either male currently.

Everybody is separated and gets switched around once a day. No bonding sessions are currently happening.

Both males are kind of getting along but we still…[Read more]

    Thank you <3

So apparently Bunbun has some irritation/inflammation in his urethra, and some bruising on the tip of his penis. The uranalysis was good, and no stones were felt. They vet said he didn’t think an xray was currently necessary unless the antibiotic doesn’t work, as he’s usually able to feel stones and felt none at all. I’m unsure if…[Read more]

It could be a sign of stress. Stress changes the gut pH, and that in turn affects the gut microbial balance. It’s very good that you’re keeping a close eye!

The best thing for mild gut issues like these is more hay. It seems prosaic, but its actually the best food for the gut bacteria and funghi (yeasts (wich are a type of funghi) are important…[Read more]

Glad they are adjusting to the change well, we would love to see some binkies and zoomies!

That is a lot of moving.  I am happy to say that the separation is done and both still seem content.  If I could figure out how to post a video it would show both binkying and zooming in there respective zones.

thanks for the advice.  Hopefully in a few month I will have bonded boys 😊

One thing I have noticed is that his poop is small round and hard, and that he’s eating more of it, could this be due to the stress he’s going through or is it a sign of something more serious?

I do not, but I volunteer for your local HRS chapter 🙂

The MD/DC/NoVA HRS Chapter’s website is rabbitsinthehouse.org. On there (see link below), we have a list of vets that our volunteers/fosters use, and Hartwood is listed there. I encourage you to look on the list! I am not in NoVA, so I cannot provide personal experience.

Hello everyone, I am currently trying to find a place to get my rabbit neutered that is both close to home and reasonably price.  Any suggestions?

From what I found there is Hartwood, and Glenn Allen Animal hospital.  Hartwood is a bit expensive (~$500), but super close to home, and Glenn Allen is cheap (~>$100), but far away (55min).  If you gu…[Read more]

Unfortunately, if it is an upper respiratory infection (which it sounds like), some trial and error is sometimes needed to find the right antibiotic to do the trick. It took three tries to find the right antibiotic combo for my rabbit’s URI. It would be important to know what antibiotics have been tried vs. not. Some more experienced vets may…[Read more]

Yeah, I used to use a metal screen but wanted to try this as it was cheaper and maybe nicer on their feet. Miraculously they haven’t chewed it yet…

    Hello everyone!

Apologies for the long post but I would really appreciate anyone’s advice on the matter!

For the last three months, my 1yo male bun Maui has been sneezing an awful lot and often has a wet nose, sometimes accompanied by a thick white snot-like mucas. His breathing sounds stranger/heavier than normal when I pick him up which has…[Read more]

I actually stopped using it because they would chew on it sometimes but had left it in this one box because they didn’t really use it. I have the paper pellet litter and even though it’s easier to clean and waste less with the screen it wasn’t worth them eating it to me.

I had a bun who would always attack the broom while I was sweeping. He seemed to interpret it as some sort of live being that invaded his space. Interestingly, he always stopped growling and put his head down when I pet his head with the broom. It is the top bunny that put its chin to the floor 8n a demand for grooming by the other bun, so my…[Read more]

I am curious about how you perceive her hay diet. Do her poops seem healthy generally? Poop can be very telling of what the status of the gut is.

It’s very much from me reading anecdotal evidence, but some rabbits seem to do much much better when switching hay and pellet brands. For example, comparatively, Sherwood can be more agreeable than…[Read more]

Oh goodness, how stressful. I wonder if it is rather a case of not fully recovering, rather than recurring episodes? Sometimes stasis can take weeks to fully recover.

Can the vet set you up with everything you need at home (sub-cutaneous fluids, motility meds, pain meds, etc.)?

Has the vet tried to identify any possible causes of this? Such as…[Read more]

That’s frustrating! But hopefully more time will help. You also might want to cave and just add a second box to see if that helps.
