Unfortunately, if it is an upper respiratory infection (which it sounds like), some trial and error is sometimes needed to find the right antibiotic to do the trick. It took three tries to find the right antibiotic combo for my rabbit’s URI. It would be important to know what antibiotics have been tried vs. not. Some more experienced vets may…[Read more]

Yeah, I used to use a metal screen but wanted to try this as it was cheaper and maybe nicer on their feet. Miraculously they haven’t chewed it yet…

    Hello everyone!

Apologies for the long post but I would really appreciate anyone’s advice on the matter!

For the last three months, my 1yo male bun Maui has been sneezing an awful lot and often has a wet nose, sometimes accompanied by a thick white snot-like mucas. His breathing sounds stranger/heavier than normal when I pick him up which has…[Read more]

I actually stopped using it because they would chew on it sometimes but had left it in this one box because they didn’t really use it. I have the paper pellet litter and even though it’s easier to clean and waste less with the screen it wasn’t worth them eating it to me.

I had a bun who would always attack the broom while I was sweeping. He seemed to interpret it as some sort of live being that invaded his space. Interestingly, he always stopped growling and put his head down when I pet his head with the broom. It is the top bunny that put its chin to the floor 8n a demand for grooming by the other bun, so my…[Read more]

I am curious about how you perceive her hay diet. Do her poops seem healthy generally? Poop can be very telling of what the status of the gut is.

It’s very much from me reading anecdotal evidence, but some rabbits seem to do much much better when switching hay and pellet brands. For example, comparatively, Sherwood can be more agreeable than…[Read more]

Oh goodness, how stressful. I wonder if it is rather a case of not fully recovering, rather than recurring episodes? Sometimes stasis can take weeks to fully recover.

Can the vet set you up with everything you need at home (sub-cutaneous fluids, motility meds, pain meds, etc.)?

Has the vet tried to identify any possible causes of this? Such as…[Read more]

That’s frustrating! But hopefully more time will help. You also might want to cave and just add a second box to see if that helps.

Does this happen everywhere, or mostly in his area? What is his set-up like? Does he have his own pen that is his safe-zone, or is he free-roam?

The sweeping up motions and low motions tend to be somewhat threatening to rabbits. They can’t see very well right in front of them or low. I would try to minimize cleaning and sweeping areas while he is…[Read more]

Rabbits tend to grieve in their own ways, and they often know something is up before we do. Sometimes a bonded mate will even abandon the other bunny in the final hours (which is heartbreaking to watch, but you can imagine why this would happen in wild bunnies). It’s good that he’s eating and drinking and zooming a bit.

One of my bridge bunnies,…[Read more]

    Hello everyone,

Im hoping to hear your experience on the following topic. One of my bunnies, Mila has has a very sensitive stomach. This is to the point that she has had gi stasis episodes before and a total of 5 episodes in the las 8 weeks. With 2 of them being critical and almost fatal (each one costed $2k+ in Vet Bills).
    she was put on…[Read more]

    Oh that’s interesting!

I actually started using a plastic screen too because they were digging a lot and making a huge mess. I’ve been wondering about whether it was staying too wet, as sometimes if there is hay on top of the screen it gets pretty wet. But they just eat so much more hay when it’s in the box vs. only in the rack. Will have to keep…[Read more]

I just feel so sorry for him, we can’t believe she went at such a young age 😢. I guess that’s all we can hope for that he carries on eating and drinking and hopefully we can take some of the pain away.

I’m sorry that you lost Candy.

We cant know if rabbits grieve, they probably do in some form. They are a social species and prefer not to be alone. They do seem to sense when another rabbit is sick, which can sometimes result in aggression towards the sick rabbit.

If he is eating and drinking and pooping, he will likely be alright. It’s very…[Read more]

Hi, on Friday we lost our 16 month mini lop female Candy 😢. We have her brother Floss still with us. They were very close. Floss has always been a complex rabbit, unlike his sister he’s never been an energetic, curious type. He tolerates being petted and likes the occasional kiss on the forehead but he’s usually the sleepy and grumpy one and Can…[Read more]
