Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Rabbit smell – HELP! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 5 months ago
If you can’t get rid of the smell with everything you’ve already tried: check her glands. Rabbits have scent glands which are near their anal opening, they’re about the size of a nostril and are on each side. Bunnies can smell really awful if their scent glands are clogged. Breintje needs his cleaned several times a year because the wax builds up…[Read more]

@Bam, Hazel, Jersey and Dana: it’s good to be back, I really missed this forum, you and your buns! ^_^
@Jersey: I was devastated to hear of the loss of Reese, my condolences π₯ She was such a gorgeous bun! Were you able to get support from people while the forum was down?
@Bam: Glad to hear that Vilde has become a cuddlebug too. Never…[Read more]

It’s beautiful to see that Coco is so well-cared for! We tend to blame ourselves when a rabbit dies, but the sad truth is that rabbits are incredibly fragile and that they’re masters of hiding illness. Coco proves that you’re a great bunny owner, and I wish you many happy times together!

Binky free sweet Cotton! You are so missed because you are so loved. It’s amazing how bunnies can make your life different, even if they’re only with us for a short time. Cotton would be so proud to see you become a vet and help other buns!

I can feel how deep your love is through your words, Raven was a lucky bunny to be so cherished! My condolences for the loss of your bunny buddy π Binky free sweet Raven!
The sad thing about rabbits is that they are very frail prey animals: they get ill quickly and hide their illness for as long as they can. As soon as you notice it, you already…[Read more]

I think chloroplast is fine actually, in that it provides a hearty structure and flat floor. I would not use it on its own though. In all the C&C cages I’ve built, I have used cage grids for the floor, with chloroplast zip-tied to it for an even flooring, and then carpet on top of the chloroplast. I use the low-ply carpet squares you get at the…[Read more]

Thank you for sharing your experiences! That does help, because sometimes I think I’m going bonkers. It’s weird to experience this, and my boyfriend doesn’t know how to handle it either. He just hugs me and doesn’t know what to say. He takes life more as it comes, and tends not to dwell on the future.
I didn’t know Bun Jovi was so ill once, but I…[Read more]

Thank you for the update <3 And yes I see your initial post was right around the time the forum went down, so I’m sorry you didn’t get as much support on your post.
That is wonderful to hear that Coco is doing well and that time has healed a bit. <3

I dealt with this a bit with Bertha, who passed Christmas of 2019, and currently a bit with Bun Jovi. Like every little thing I start asking myself “is this it?”. It’s a little different with Bun Jovi, because he actually did almost die a couple years ago, so now we really do feel like every day is a bonus.
With Bertha I did notice a gradual…[Read more]

He is the most ridiculous creature… and is VERY happy to finally have space to run around and binky! The few months since we got him were all at my in-laws place and all the buns pretty much had the minimum space, they are all so much happier now! It’s just been flops and binkies all around. π

I think the set-up sounds fine, and with more time she will probably settle down a bit. The pooping might not get better until they are bonded though.
I think it can also be helpful to think about “good stress” vs. “bad stress”. Another rabbit in your territory might be slightly stressful, but in my mind it constitutes a form of ‘good stress’…[Read more]

I wonder what she means by cat litter? Clay litter is very dangerous for rabbits, but “feline pine” and some other pelleted paper litters are safe for bunnies.

Oh that’s interesting. I imagine they could make a very nice looking pen.
I just rebuilt my buns’ setups and for flooring I’m currently using a sheet of vinyl (slightly textured) with puzzle mats underneath. The edge of the vinyl is outside the pen so they can’t chew it, and they don’t seem to have any issues walking on the vinyl. It’s working…[Read more]

I think she will be just fine, especially with just a 3 day trip.Β I would make sure she has extra hay and some new boredom buster toys if you’re worried, my buns tend to eat more hay when I am gone and they get bored. I would have your sitter come twice a day though, since if a problem comes up you would want it to be noticed within 12 hours.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Help! Is this living situation OK? in the forum BONDING 5 years, 5 months ago
Regarding whether to move him out of the house I think more so depends on what you think will be less stressful for both of them, and also you! A rabbit pooping around a lot doesn’t necessarily mean they’re stressed. To an extent, there might be chronic, low stress, but if it’s tolerable until bonding can start, that is something to accept.…[Read more]

Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it.
We’ve been swapping our clothes and showering when going between the rooms but I’m sure she still picks up his scent.
I wasn’t sure whether it’s better to let them get used to each other’s scent, as you suggest, or to temporarily move Tokki out of the house until it’s time to start…[Read more]
