Roseelizabeth started the topic otherwise healthy (bit old) bun making funny wheezing/squeaky sounds in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 11 months ago
Context: 7 yr old lionhead dwarf rabbit, free-roam in bunny proofed area (courtesy this site), male with shots but never fixed. (sry for oversharing i just want to touch all bases..)
Issue: recently, while at rest (usually splooted) he’ll make this weird kind of squeaky sound with each exhale, a bit like a wheeze possibly? this weird breaths…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Cannot diagnose!! Any advice please in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 11 months ago
Any update on this? I apologize, my initial response was on my phone. I do think that if you’re not getting answers from your vet, then it may be time for a second opinion. There are things that can be done without definitive diagnosis. Sometimes you just have to go by the symptoms and see if the treatment helps. In the case of EC, giving a bunny…[Read more]

Is there any effort to try to trap these rabbits? Living in the “wild” is a hard life for domestic rabbits.
I agree with Dana that it may be difficult to build a shelter that can keep cats out. The opening would need to be big enough for a bunny, but too small for a cat. Getting the size right would depend on the animals involved. If their head…[Read more]

It’s always good to have a shelter/tunnel for rabbits, as they do indeed enjoy their hidey-holes!
Since this is an old thread, you’re unlikely to get contributions from the original posters @Deezle, so I will be locking it; however, feel free to comment to any more active/recent threads, as well as create your own topics!

My little girl loves to shred a bed. As long as they have some kind of shelter/tunnel to snuggle together out of drafts, they will probably be fine.

If neither are in need of immediate attention (i.e., soaked that you need to dry them well w/ a towel), I’d keep the session going a bit so it doesn’t end w/ a stressful encounter association.

I am almost 4 hours into a bonding session that has been amazing both snuggling and grooming now. However a decoration fell and landed in one of the buns and he ran to the corner his brother was in and the water bowl flipped and soaked both of them and the ran and got in a scuffle. I stopped it and pet them together for a min and then one ran to…[Read more]

I’m about 4 hours in this session and they have been snuggling and grooming each other and eating together using both litter boxes without issues. Just a couple minutes ago a decoration fell on one of the buns (didn’t hurt, just scared him bad) he ran to the corner his brother was in and it startled him and made the water bowl fly and soak the…[Read more]

This is a very nice idea, but based in my own cats and bunnies, this would be challenging to do. Cats can squeeze into anything they can fit their head into.

In my community, we have quite a few wild rabbits. But also have feral cats that eat the bunnies. I would like to build a house that sits on ground for rabbits to go inside, but with a door that the cats cannot go thru. What would be a good width as I know bunnies can squeeze where cats cannot. Trying to give them a safe place to live wild.

I agree with Wick&Fable!
And I think your plan sounds pretty good. I think once they are doing pretty well it’s good to keep doing the longest sessions you can. Only time I would shorten is if you see things get more tense during the date. If they are more tense at the beginning and then relax, that’s a sign you can increase session length.
You…[Read more]
