Thanks @DanaNM I really appreciate your advice so much! He was just such a sad little bun just laying in my lap yesterday obviously in pain, breaks my heart to see him like that. He seems to like the new hay, but I can’t gage if he is eating less as easily as it tends to compact more.

I am a little late in responding, but I totally get it. My cat of 19 years passed away not that long ago and well at 19 I knew it wouldn’t be forever, I often found myself trying to mentally prepare for her passing… it sort of helped as when she did I knew I wanted her to be water processed rather than cremated and who would do it, and other…[Read more]

I wonder if Dorian would be a good candidate for “cooperative care” for nail trims? This technique looks so interesting, I’m thinking of trying it for Cooper.

I think it is probably all related to molting, or potentially he’s eating less of the new hay. We also see lots of buns getting tummy issues with the season change at the rescue. There are hormonal changes in spring a long with just acclimating to new temps etc. Unless it progresses to something that doesn’t resolve with a tummy rub and…[Read more]

Rabbits will mate with their parents if given the opportunity, or any other rabbit for that matter. So no, I wouldn’t think that’s the reason.

Hi! Just curious, my bunny is 6 months old so he’s started doing hormonal behaviours like circling, honking etc. He will be neutered soon, so no worries there. But he does not circle me at all or does any of those behaviours towards me. I don’t care at all I just wonder why he does it to everyone except me. He does it to my two grandparents I live…[Read more]

for such a little bun Breintje sounds very feisty!
Cooper sounds a bit like Dorian with the nail trims versus cuddles. Though Dorian is more about snuggles & lap time on his terms, and just downright pulls all the drama for nail clippings. He actually will squeak and act like I have severed his paw when I am not even clipping yet, it makes the…[Read more]

Yes but watch your rabbit while they’re adjusting to it. I use pellets with baking soda and it’s fine as long as the rabbit doesn’t eat it. It can expand in their stomach if they eat it though so you just need to watch carefully until you’re sure your bun doesn’t think it’s food.

Dorian had another incident yesterday. It didn’t seem as bad, but he took longer to recover… I was just about to give him his 3rd dose of gas drops and he perked up and started running through his tunnels.
One thing like last time when I massaged his tummy, poops would fly out (twice this happened last night and a little under a dozen normal…[Read more]

hello! I decided to try a different bedding for my bun since I don’t think his pee is absorbing well, and I heard paper pellets were the best. I visited my local pet store and found fresh4life eco-paper pellets for cats. the worker said it was fine to use for rabbits; however, I noticed that the company adds in baking soda to neutralize the s…[Read more]

Jeeez Ellie, that’s awful! Consent is key for everything! Hopefully some signage will help… maybe you can add some electric wire if not!

DanaNM replied to the topic Endive vs chicory in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago
Yep, frisee/endive/chichory are all good staples.
The main thing to watch out for are veggies that are high oxalate (beet tops, chard, spinach, parsley). Many veggies that are high in calcium are also super nutritious (like carrot tops, which are also very high in vitamin A).
Dr Frances Harcourt-Brown has an article discussing veggies and…[Read more]

Unfortunately it didn’t seem to help him very much, but we think he had a chronic issue due to his genetics. I also had a hard time getting cecals from my healthy rabbit, so I think we only successfully did cecal shakes once, but did poop shakes with regular poops for maybe a week?
That said, my vet would only ever do things that worked for him…[Read more]
