DanaNM replied to the topic Nothing will stop buns from destroying carpet, pee pads, and blankets. in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 3 months ago
Sounds like a good plan! I am dealing with very similar issues with my Cooper. I would LOVE if he could free-roam all the time, but he keeps finding new things to nibble so I’m not 100% confident in our bunny proofing yet. Hoping as he gets older he will calm down a bit too (he’1 about 1 right now).

DanaNM replied to the topic How do I prepare Frisee lettuce ? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 3 months ago
My bunnies love frisee, but sometimes buns can take a while to warm up to a new food. You can offer it along with veggies he likes, and remove it if he doesn’t eat it.
I think Bam just meant that the leaves will keep better if you keep them attached to the head, in a bag in the fridge, as opposed to separating them all and rinsing them ahead of time.

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny is pooping and peeing around her house in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 3 months ago
She could be getting a bit arthritic, which can make buns less inclined to hop into their box. I know my seniors all have gotten pretty lazy about pooping in the box. When she peed, did it seem more like dribbling or large puddles? If dribbling, that could be a UTI.
In either case, your vet can assess for arthritis or bladder issues. There are…[Read more]

He hunches up and he does squint. He does it after he runs around, chews on the cage and gets on his hind legs to see if the top is still on the cage. One he is done checking…. is when he sits and clicks. And it’s like he’s mad at me, or upset about not being able to get out

It’s hard to say, because you covered his cage around the time you thought you might have hurt him.
Does he seem relaxed or tense when he’s teeth-clicking? Is he squinting or showing any reluctance to move around?

Thank you Dana! I have some great news! I’ve put him on a different feeding schedule. Tell me if this sounds good to you! I’ve got these ideas from some fellow rabbit owners that are experienced from rabbits online. Not sure if you know the website but people from there told me I should feed him less veggies, less pellets, and less treats so I did…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic I cannot make my bunny eats hay. in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 3 months ago
Have you had his teeth checked by the vet? Selective eating, and especially not eating hay, is the probably the most common symptom of dental problems.

I agree with Wick, I can’t really see the picture well enough to know, but I think a vet visit would be a good idea.

I’m sure his situation will be much improved with you!
I think with any new rabbit, especially a young one, the most important things are to make sure they adjust to changing diet and have good hay consumption. If you aren’t able to get some of the pellets he’s currently eating, it’s OK to feed hay only (assuming he eats his hay well) and very…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Stepped on lionhead’s fur whiskers and about 10 whisker fell off😰 in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 3 months ago
She will probably be fine on both counts, although I’m sure she thinks she deserved some corn flakes as payment for the lost whiskers.
Push extra hay and water to keep things moving along in her gut, and keep an eye on her poops. She might have some gas or some soft poops. If she seems gassy you can give her a tummy rub and simethicone (baby gas drops).

Treats from well-meaning family members can definitely cause problems! I have counseled very sad owners whose children gave their bunny too much fruit and it got poopy butt and ended up with fly strike, which is truly horrifying. Unfortunately that bunny did not survive, so too many treats can really become a life or death situation.
Especially…[Read more]

Hello, I am going to be a first time bunny mom come June and I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of health issues I should watch out for in a young rabbit coming from an outside only “Free range” situation. From the images, my bunny seems to be roaming outside of a garage area, but also in a wire bottom cage with several others. I would go…[Read more]

Hello,
I have my bunny since she was around 1 year old (as was estimated by the vet). She was spayed and I didn’t even have to teach her to use litterbox. She started using the litterbox by herself just a few days after the surgery. Her bunny house was always clean with just a few accidental droppings found here and there. She is now about 8.5.…[Read more]
