I am so sorry this happened to you! I can’t image how scary that must have been for you. My rabbit died fairly suddenly as well. The vet said her kidneys failed, but that doesn’t should like what happened with you. RHD is possible, but if Bambi was eating grass outside, it is likely she choked. I am not sure if you are a new bunny mom but…[Read more]

Yeah, it’s interesting. Many rescues and rabbit welfare organizations now recommend larger spaces, but there are some popular blogs and youtube channels that say small spaces, so that seems to have taken hold. Small space bonding falls in the category of “flooding”, which was a type of behavioral therapy that was used a lot in dogs in the past,…[Read more]

I do not know anything about skinguard, but I am curious about your vet’s connection between ear infection treatment and runny nose/watery eyes. That sounds like treating for a URI (upper respiratory infection) would be good to explore. It’s possible your rabbit has/had both an ear infection and a URI, and/or one is related to the…[Read more]

Sounds like referred aggression, and my money is on spring fever!
Putting up a towel or a blanket to block their view is the right move. That’s what I’ve had to do at times when housing a single bun next to a bonded pair.
Im guessing in a few weeks things will settle again and you can slowly remove the barrier. Or if it persists you might con…[Read more]

I took my Holland lop to the vet 3 weeks ago because his nose was runny and eyes watering. The vet said he had ear infection in left ear. I gave him ear drops, eye drops, and oral medicine. I just took him back for checkup and since his nose is still running. Vet said most of ear infection is gone but is ear openings are very small and that he may…[Read more]

I guess this is less advice seeking and more just… expressing my sadness. This behavior has never happened before and just started a couple days ago. Nora and Fresno are housed literally right by Quincy, and all has always been well as long as there are grids separating them. All 3 of them occasionally lay by each other peacefully. But lately,…[Read more]

I use my fingers to gently work fur clumps that have released out. I rub my fingers together so it clumps together and doesn’t fly everywhere and make a pile while petting.

That is actually the first time I’ve heard the advice to use a large area rather than a small one. Since you mention it though, I actually think that might be worth trying with my bunnies. I think if the more tense, reluctant male were able to run away, the situation would deescalate more quickly. The reason I think that is every time the other m…[Read more]

You can try a lint roller, the sticky paper-kind. It will catch a lot of the loose hair.
You can also wet your hands and run your fingers through her fur to try and catch as much hair as possible, but a lint roller will pick up hair more effectively.

Hey guys, I just got a rex rabbit not too long ago and since summer is around the corner she has been shedding a whole lot. I was wondering if there is a way I can help her. It will literally be all over me from just petting her and she spends a lot of time licking herself I don’t know if she is overwhelmed or not. I don’t want her to digest all…[Read more]

Some people recommend only working with all three together, but lots of people have success with working on the hardest pair first, so I don’t think that was a bad idea. If they do well with just the two of them and the female makes things harder, then I think working with all three would probably be the most effective going forward. Sometimes the…[Read more]

Thank you for the advice. I have definitely been considering that we may need to just always keep the boys separated. They seem to be fine living side by side; just not in the same living space. So we should be okay to have them living in ex-pens next to each other and just take them out to play separately. I was really hoping they could be…[Read more]

Thanks Dana! Maybe she has had them all along or picked them up from the vet. Who knows!
We read that baby oil can help so we did put a little bit in her ears and she has actually left her ears alone for the last couple hours.

LBJ10, he very well could be stressed. What comes to mind is RHDV2 and all the stressful bio safety precautions we have been taking, which I’m sure they can sense. I’ll certainly meditate on other stressors as well. Thank you for the reply.

Trios can be very difficult, and not always possible (or maybe possible, but not worth the stress and risk). The simplest thing to do would be to settle with the pair that appears to be bonded, and keep the other male separate, but I’m sure you’ve already considered that!
In this case, if the males are routinely drawing blood, then I would advise…[Read more]

Revolution is a common and effective treatment, you can get it from your vet. I can’t speak to any “home remedies”, I would just get in to your vet when you can. She will be OK if she has to wait a couple days.
Sometimes bunnies can have very low levels of mites and not show symptoms, so it isn’t always possible to know where they came from.

Wick gave some great tips!
I would recommend putting him on a table if you aren’t already. If you have an assistant, have one person put their hand over the bun’s eyes and head (eyes covered, nose exposed), and other behind the bum so they can’t back up. Usually that is enough to get buns to sit still.

I’m very sorry for your loss. 🙁
You did everything right by letting him spend time with the body and spending extra time with him, some bunnies take loss harder than others and show their grief in different ways. Syringe feeding him is also the right move if he refuses to eat. I was going to suggest a stuffy, but it sounds like you already have…[Read more]
