royalbun replied to the topic Survey! What offends your bun the most? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 3 months ago
To some extent I can rearrange the buns stuff, but if I move their box house from a place they really wanted it, they get stompy. Persephone (the queen bun) also gets offended if I “demand” her to groom me (putting my hand too close under her chin or something). Persephone is easily offended tho so I usually just let her get stompy and she’ll be…[Read more]

Yay! Great progress!!!
I’ve always waited until the seem bonded to move to semi-neutral. Are you seeing grooming, cuddling, food sharing?
You’ll want to see positive behaviors, not just the absence of negative.
I feel like it’s better to spend longer than you think in neutral. Like personally, if I think they are doing great in neutral for a…[Read more]

royalbun started the topic Help? Rabbit Grooms Me But It Hurts in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 3 months ago
Hey there bun friends and bun parents! I posted some months ago about my newly adopted rabbits. I’m happy to report both my buns have now grown to not only accept my presence, but they also let me pet them, and recently Ophelia has started grooming me!
I have a question regarding that last bit though. Though I love that Ophelia is expressing…[Read more]

That’s what I thought as well. If it was closer it would be no problem. But I don’t think he’d be in the mood after a long car ride.
I like the pee pad idea and rolling up the towel. I always found it awkward for them to slide to the back of the carrier because the seat is slanted. I don’t think my carrier would fit in the floor.
I always leave…[Read more]

Yes I agree! The little guy definitely gets more aggressive at night!

LBJ10 replied to the topic Average price of neuter in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 3 months ago
It really does depend on where you live. Prices can vary widely. I think $125 is perfectly reasonable, but $300 isn’t unheard of. The shelter may be able to offer a low cost spay/neuter clinic ($70). This option may be OK too, but you will want to check to see how many rabbits they do and their success rate. You’ll often find that the vet doing…[Read more]

I personally would say if they can go a full day (or two if you can swing it) there with no issues, then you can start– that’s just me! With my rabbits, they can be fine for the large majority of the day (9+ hrs), but it’s those later hours where the stuff starts to come out as they get a bit rowdy and more active.

Me again. I took this week off work to do ultra-marathon bonding. I’ve finally got TIME to do this. We’re doing great! The first night not much happened. The second night the little guy mounted both big bunnies nonstop. Yesterday morning I added a used litterbox from their house and it didn’t cause a single fight. Last night I barely heard a…[Read more]

Sera replied to the topic Last resort before giving up on bond in the forum BONDING 5 years, 3 months ago
Thanks for all of the advice! I’ll give it a go in the garage after a month or so of them taking a break with bonding. I think they will be much better when the less dominant male can run away. Especially since the dominant one often seems to bite him preemptively when he takes a defensive stance in their small space.

I think my vet charged around 250$.

Boo is coming along nicely. Seems to enjoy being held and snuggled.
Her and Walter still like to be close thru the wire.
Sad to believe she was found as a stray and no one claimed her.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Ear infection won’t go away?! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 3 months ago
Oh yes, an ear infection can be painful. But as Wick suggested, the pain meds can also be used to reduce inflammation. The eyes, ears, and sinuses are all connected so an infection can start in one place and migrate to the others. What you are describing seems more consistent with a URI… but I assume the vet saw infection in the ear upon examination.

It really depends on where you live as well as the size of the providers. I would say $300+ is definitely on the higher end and I do not think that cost is justified if you have an alternative, trustworthy provider who is offering less.

What have y’all paid for rabbit neuters?
Called around today and got a HUGE difference…from $70 (the shelter) to over $300!
One was $125 from a vet I’ve used before, think that is the way to go. Shelter is a long way out on appointments anyhow.

Don’t think I would bring Tater along, just for the reason that I doubt he will behave normally in a date after such a long drive (esp given that you know he stresses out after the vet). Plus having to make the round trip would be hard on him.
As for bringing a new bun home, I would line the carrier with some litter or a pee pad and fluffy hay,…[Read more]

I would separate, as Wick said. But I think you will have a pretty easy bond afterward.
Right now her hormones are making him mount more excessively, even though he’s neutered. The issue is that she could get tired of the mounting and lash out aggressively, or become overly stressed by it.
If you continue to let them live side by side, they…[Read more]

The garage could be great, as long as it’s not too hot. Perhaps it would be best to do session at night or early morning when it’s cool?
The slippery floor could actually work to your advantage. Rabbits are usually less apt to fight when they can’t get good footing, so as long as the floor is clean I wouldn’t worry about putting down towels yet.…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Fresno going after Nora when Quincy is around in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 3 months ago
Rabbits can be so quirky sometimes! I think they can get very used to a bun being in one place, but when they are in another place they can be like “who the heck is invading!?”
It could also be triggered by Quincy’s behavior. Quincy just minding his business in his pen is no big deal, but maybe when Fresno sees him moving around more around the…[Read more]
