Thanks!  We were able to move the appointment up a day.  She still seems to be behaving normally but she does favor her “good ear”.

I just learned of the rolled up towel thing recently, when I was doing research before moving. It does seem to really help! I always felt so bad when they would be smushed in the back of the carrier because it was slanted.

I would keep up with the “yelping” noise. If you only yelp when she bites/nips, she will get the picture. Does she respond to it when you make the sound?

I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t give antibiotics unless they were prescribed for the specific issue. There are different antibiotics used for different things, and usually outer ear infections are treated with an antibiotic drop vs. oral.

So keep your vet appointment, I’m sure the vet will clear things up. 🙂

There are only a couple vets here who take rabbits and they charge cat prices, and both of by boys were about $100 a couple years ago. That said, I’ve noticed everything with the vets is suddenly 2 to 3 times more expensive so I’m sure the neuter would be at least $200 now. Update on this… we are scheduled to take her in this Friday.  Her behavior hasn’t changed at all.  We were able to get a little bit of baby oil in the ear lobe and it appears to have helped a bit with the flaky skin.  This seems to oddly be isolated to one ear.

Near 6 months later update: both rabbits have warmed up to me considerably. both now let me give them pets, and one has even started grooming me! Now that I know they trust me and like me, I’m pretty content to just hang out in my room near them. It makes me happy to watch them just enjoying their lives and knowing they like and trust me.

Update: It’s easiest to waste less hay if you clean the hay/litter pan near daily. I’ve learned that I can leave them to eat all the hay they havent peed on, and I’ll be able to tell the remaining hay is soiled by how little there is left.
