Hi, I’ve been in a similar situation. My newest Rabbit also eats much slower than my original.  Instead of trying to separate them, she basically just gets a little less food which seems to work fine. She maybe has figured out she needs to eat what she can in one sitting at least. I cut them back on morning pellets because he was overeating, but…[Read more]

I was worried about this with previous pairs, but they seem to sort themselves out and eat what they need. You can keep track of your slow-eater’s weight to make sure she isn’t losing weight if you’re worried about it. I think doing a couple smaller meals is also a good idea, as long as it doesn’t reduce hay consumption!

If pine or cedar, that could definitely be the culprit.

Try pine pellets or crumbled paper litter, both work really well.

I’ve tried recalling and explaining that I would need an earlier appointment as it could be an emergency. However, all they did was suggest I call other places to see if they could see me, but when I did call I was told that they don’t have any available slots until the end of the month. I’m not really sure what to do.

Wick took itraconazole, which is an oral anti-fungal and it was fine. We never did a probiotic pairing, and he was fine with it. I can’t speak much to “major improvements” because it has been a while since Wick’s ringworm and it was so stubborn, but I believe itraconazole was in the treatment for the last “round” of ringworm we observed.

    Bald…[Read more]

Update: I spoke with the vets office again and realized I was not speaking with the vet that actually saw Tundra, but a vet tech. I was unfamiliar with the staff because it was our first time with this office and with COVID procedure we didn’t actually get to go in and meet the vet, a tech came and took her from our car. In further discussion w…[Read more]

Oh, great point about the food security- he was dumped in a vacant lot so he may just be feeling insecure still. I unfortunately work outside the house but I could maybe do smaller amounts of both pellets and veggies twice a day (I have been doing pellets in the morning and veg in the evening) or maybe even a second dinner at night when she is…[Read more]

What kind of wood shavings did you switch to?

Does he pick at this area much? I wonder if there is something irritating there that’s causing him to overgroom or pluck the fur, or if there is something like ringworm causing fur loss.

I suggest a vet visit to get a skin scraping and see what’s going on.

Licorice root is the only ingredient that could be health hazard if taken regularly and in high doses. It’s the same with humans and licorice, as is well known. If you see bits of licorice root in the teabag contents (looks rather like small pieces of wood) you could perhaps pick them out, but they can of course be ground to a powder and not be…[Read more]

I’ve got some fruit tea bags that my bunnies go absolutely mad for. I’ve fed them a very small amount as a treat before, but I just wanted to check that they are completely safe before I try to use them more regularly. These are caffeine free and I think the ingredients look fine, but does anyone know if there’s anything that bunnies aren’t…[Read more]

Honestly my experience has been the opposite. They used to gobble their food up like little fluffy wolves and now they eat so slowly that sometimes they don’t even finish their pellets, and they only get 1/8 cup per bunny per meal so it’s not like they have a lot. I even switched from Oxbow Essentials to Garden Select because I thought the flavor…[Read more]

I would not wait that long. The longer you’re seeing it not improve, the more likely it is something serious, like a bone-break, and that is painful. I would suggest re-calling the rabbit vets in your area and outlining what’s happening and ask if they have emergency appointment slots, or if they could see you briefly enough to prescribe your…[Read more]

    Fur lost from foot

My 1 month old bunny jus lost fur on the foot. Could somebody advise why this happened.

Also his bedding was changed recently to wood shavings but i beleive it is getting damped easily. Before this he had soft bedding which would soak alot. Do u think can this be a reason.

Hes kept in a cage in night while sleeping only and rest time he plays…[Read more]

Hello, my 6 month old rabbit randomly started to limp about 4 days ago. She isn’t putting too much weight on her back leg, and initially she would hold it up to her body. She isn’t showing any obvious signs of pain – she still is eating and drinking the same. I’ve since confined her to a smaller area to prevent her from injuring the leg more. It…[Read more]

From my personal experience (via my rabbit Wick) with ringworm, I sort of forgo the environmental contamination thing… my understanding is the fungal spores that can cause ringworm are essentially everywhere and it’d be pretty difficult to identify where it was coming from and get rid of it. If I recall my research correctly, I think I found…[Read more]

Thanks everyone. That article was helpful DanaNM. If I had room to keep separate it would help, but I rent and it’s a bit tight given how much room Dorian thinks he should have as is. The other bun also has to be suited to free roam too which is an added requirement. I think I will just keep an eye on the eligible single ladies at the shelter (&…[Read more]
