@Wick care to elaborate on the Guinea pig and rabbit transmission? We don’t house them together at the rescue, but they share exercise pens without issues. Certain buns and guinea pigs don’t get along though, so it’s assessed individually.

That sounds really positive! It’s not normal for there to be that much aggression in a bonded pair but very normal to see that pattern in bonding sessions.  I’m interested to see how tonight goes! Fingers crossed for less fur pulling!

    Below are the X-ray progressions:

    1) 03/18/21 – initial visit; no treatment

    2) 03/27 – After 1 week of restricted cage time + meloxicam & tramadol medication

    3) 06/02/21 – After 4 weeks of free-roam and no medication

… It is very clear on the latest x-ray how swollen the 2nd finger has become. The hope is the swelling and fuzziness…[Read more]

How exciting! I will mention that guinea pigs and rabbits can uniquely pass things to each other than can be dangerous, so be sure to keep them separate!

Yesterday I think I may have had a breakthrough, I spent the whole day with them and there was next to no growling or hair pulling or any of that, mostly just laying near eachother, laying together, eating together and grooming eachother. Because of their progress I decided to try an overnight session, I don’t think it went poorly, they were d…[Read more]

This is just from my experience and what my vet told me, so check with your own vet too!

Dorian, my bun, was told to not have any pellets, he also refused them despite loving them before his stasis. Basically he gets unlimited greens and hay. My vet is a big believer in reproducing the buns natural diet, so that’s was basically feeding him a lot…[Read more]

@SeparateWay , not sure of your full plan, but be sure that you are working with your bunnies in neutral territory. If they are interacting in your first bun’s “turf”, fights are a lot more likely and it can be much harder to bond properly. It’s also very important to prevent fighting.

If you would like to post some more detailed info on what…[Read more]

Hi there! You’ve received a lot of great info already, but I just wanted to pop in because my past rabbit (Ollie) had a ringworm/fungal infection on the outside (fur side) of his ears at the beginning of 2020. We tried a topical cream first, and then because the infection persisted, we were advised to give him Griseofulvin orally (1x/day for 30…[Read more]

Oh no! I’m so sorry Wick. I hope he gets well soon! Aw, please don’t feel bad for not noticing. It’s definitely not your fault!

Best wishes to you and your sweet bun.

Unfortunate follow-up: Wick is back to confinement 😥

Wick had been free-roam from 5/01 thru 5/28, with what seemed like no problems. On the morning of 5/29, I noticed he was not putting weight on the paw again and upon closer examination, it was swelled. We got meloxicam from the vet that day to help with pain until we could be seen on 6/02…[Read more]

I look forward to more updates as I’m going through a very similar experience. My 4 year old male Lupin had a date with a 6 month old female Luna at a rescue. His dating experience started off bad with a previous bunny that immediately bit his butt and pulled hair out. He was a little traumatized after that, but Luna was the only bunny who fell in…[Read more]

I’d say keep your rabbit to a restricted space that’s flat. Keep monitoring appetite, poop, and energy. It’s pretty important to get an x-ray to understand the situation, as well as get a hold of pain medication. Is it possible for you to extend your search radius and perhaps be willing to go a bit further to find a vet? The other option, while…[Read more]

Hi, I’ve been in a similar situation. My newest Rabbit also eats much slower than my original.  Instead of trying to separate them, she basically just gets a little less food which seems to work fine. She maybe has figured out she needs to eat what she can in one sitting at least. I cut them back on morning pellets because he was overeating, but…[Read more]

I was worried about this with previous pairs, but they seem to sort themselves out and eat what they need. You can keep track of your slow-eater’s weight to make sure she isn’t losing weight if you’re worried about it. I think doing a couple smaller meals is also a good idea, as long as it doesn’t reduce hay consumption!

If pine or cedar, that could definitely be the culprit.

Try pine pellets or crumbled paper litter, both work really well.

I’ve tried recalling and explaining that I would need an earlier appointment as it could be an emergency. However, all they did was suggest I call other places to see if they could see me, but when I did call I was told that they don’t have any available slots until the end of the month. I’m not really sure what to do.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Tundra has ringworm :(! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 2 months ago

Wick took itraconazole, which is an oral anti-fungal and it was fine. We never did a probiotic pairing, and he was fine with it. I can’t speak much to “major improvements” because it has been a while since Wick’s ringworm and it was so stubborn, but I believe itraconazole was in the treatment for the last “round” of ringworm we observed.

    Bald…[Read more]

Update: I spoke with the vets office again and realized I was not speaking with the vet that actually saw Tundra, but a vet tech. I was unfamiliar with the staff because it was our first time with this office and with COVID procedure we didn’t actually get to go in and meet the vet, a tech came and took her from our car. Oh, great point about the food security- he was dumped in a vacant lot so he may just be feeling insecure still. I unfortunately work outside the house but I could maybe do smaller amounts of both pellets and veggies twice a day (I have been doing pellets in the morning and veg in the evening) or maybe even a second dinner at night when she is…[Read more]
