Hi
We put the bunnies together today and Louie (dominant – we think) keeps going up to Milo and nipping him on the butt. This has happened several times in last hour which is unusual. Milo is a little on edge now. What could have changed? Milo is pretty much completely flat to the ground now again whenever Louie is near.
They are still eating…[Read more]

I like to use the largest space possible, even as big as two x-pens linked up. You might see some chasing, but the idea with a large area is that one rabbit may chase, and the other runs away and has space to get away. Eventually the rabbit that’s chasing realizes the other rabbit isn’t going to turn to fight them and they eventually calm down. So…[Read more]

That all sounds very positive! I think it is perfectly fine to keep doing longer sessions when you can, and separating them at night. As long as they are consistently spending time together each day you will make progress (or at least not backtrack). Sometimes it seems like nothing is happening, but they are just slowly building up the trust. ๐

Sometimes a change in location can upset a bond, and being outside in spring time may have further upset things. I’m sorry you have gone through such a stressful event, but I’m glad both bunnies are OK now. ๐
With such a bad fight and such a serious injury, you will want to give them a long time to calm down, heal, and forget the fighting before…[Read more]

If symptoms are getting worse while on Baytril, that’s a sign that Baytril is ineffective against the particular bacteria causing the infection (and therefore medication should be switched to a different antibiotic) and/or the problem is not URI-related. Baytril is not curative for all things that cause URIs, so make sure your friend lets the vet…[Read more]

Dr.Cheese replied to the topic Risk of Disease When Taken Outside? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 5 years, 2 months ago
Personally, I never took my first rabbit outside because of fears from pesticides/insecticides as well as insects. He lived a long 8 years and still ended up having worms at one point at a young age! However, I do not feel it is worth the risk unless you know exactly how the grass/plants are treated. If you want to take them outside and let them…[Read more]

Iโm not sure. But my friend said the doctor did give him a eye exam, that day the doctor told him nothing was wrong with the rabbit, and just had a respiratory infection. He than sudden had trouble breathing and he is trying to the shower steam thingy. Weโre just really scared if he is going to die or not.

Could it be a minor kidney infection? White blood cells usually suggest an infection of some kind.

Mouth breathing suggests something more serious is going on: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Respiratory/Illness/Pneumonia/Pneumon_en.htm
Did the vet do any other tests to confirm diagnosis? Chest x-rays? In cases like this, you worry about pneumonia. If the Baytril isn’t working, a different antibiotic should be tried. In the meantime, he could…[Read more]

So sorry for the late update! Took Thumper to the vet and they did a blood and urine test and the blood test came back fine and the urine test showed that there was some white blood cells however the vet didn’t find that concerning and said he’ll be fine without medication. Some days he’s still drinking over 2 cups of water and other days it’s…[Read more]

Agree with BZOO, something outside might be frightening them. I would go back to keeping them inside. It’s safer and healthier for them anyway and there’s not any real benefit to keeping them outdoors. They’ll be much happier inside spending lots of time with you and getting to be part of the family. ๐

Hi
Thank you so much for your response.
I agree – i think it may be – not necessarily a dominant behavior but definitely Milo seems as though he is not willing to be submissive! (Which is strange as he is so skittish around Louie )
Today the bunnies spent 7 hours together – with no issues apart from one stand off nose to nose that led to Louie…[Read more]

Thank you Bam. I needed those encouraging words! He is loved beyond words! Hard to believe he managed to win us over so soon… There is no way he is going back to that place, specially now that I know he might be euthanized. He is definitely in his forever home. I will keep you updated! 💜
