Lulubug started the topic Rabbit chewing at night, unsure of what else to do. HELP! in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 1 month ago

New rabbit owner here, I have a 2-3 month old Holland Lop doe, I’ve had her about a week. We’re keeping her in a hutch outside, in our garage, and she does fine until it’s night. We live on a farm and have had problems with coyotes in the past, and we have a fox family that’s been seen around the property, so at night I put her up. Her hutch h…[Read more]

hi everyone, my bun’s fecal pellets been wonky lately. The consistency of her fecal droppings had been erratic, sometimes its normal and sometimes its mushy soft or moist but formed and sometimes there are uneaten cecotropes around the litter box. I’ve layed off the pellets and she’s on a hay diet (timothy 1st cut) also, gave her half a vial of ER…[Read more]

In terms of what rabbit breed would be best, there are no valid patterns in bonding success nor temperament that is going to make one breed better than another. Any breed is going to probably have equal variability in bonding compatibility, as it comes down to your rabbit’s personality and the personality of the other rabbit which ultimately…[Read more]

So I have a almost 16 month old Flemish Giant, Dean. I had planned on getting him neutered but after a medical emergency the vet advised against it due to affects anesthesia may have on his brain. I had also planned on getting another flemish giant and get that one spayed/neutered as well but I never did after Deans incident. I really want to get…[Read more]

If the living room is neutral, I think it’d be fine to start in that space then.

Re: separation, you could potentially use the space you’re using currently for bonding, that way no ownership occurs in the new bonding space.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Pre-Bonding: bunny chinning other bunnies belongings in the forum BONDING 5 years, 1 month ago

Chinning is something all rabbits naturally do in order to “claim” things, so whether it’s in bonding, pre-bonding, or just every day life, chinning is a natural rabbit behavior they’ll do when interacting with things!

You guys, I am so excited! I have spent TWO YEARS getting the black and white rabbit to be calm around each other and look at them now! This is their first date in non-neutral territory and it’s amazing! They have 2 entire pens hooked together too which is by far the largest area I’ve ever been able to put them in. Yay yay I’m so happy! They…[Read more]

Hi guys! I’m currently pre-bonding with my two Holland lops (one male one female) and have been switching their belongings over. I switched their beds and have given the male a bunny toy that smells like my female bunny. This morning I noticed him chinning her bed and the toy that smells like her. Is this a good sign? They’ve been displaying som…[Read more]

Thank you, Wick. Sorry, I should have mentioned that we’ve doing bonding dates for about a month, with 2 weeks of pre-bonding before that. I switched to 24/7 because they were getting on so well and showing lots of positive behaviours, and no fighting.

The problem is I can’t expand the current space anymore and they both seem a bit on edge after…[Read more]

Things still need to be worked out. 4 days in is actually not very long at all in terms of a bonding process– the fact that you have grooming is a great sign. Bonding can take literal weeks/months sometimes. There will be better and worse days, and it’s all a part of the rabbits figuring things out.

If you/your partner will be away for work, I…[Read more]

Ah thank you! We survived our first night! I did wake up a few times to the pitter patter of bunny feet. I’m not sure if they were chases or zooms (cant see much without contacts) but I tried to shut it down just in case.

I’m delighted to report that this morning Wolfie jumped right into the litter box with little missy. She’s tried to jump in wi…[Read more]
