Bam replied to the topic Drinking and hay problems of a newly adopted bunny in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years ago
Some hay in the litterbox is good -rabbits do like to munch when they go. But I’d rather replenish it often in the litterbox (as well as in the rabbit area) than put in a huge pile at once. I’m currently fostering a young bun who comes hopping to munch the second I sprinkle some new hay on top of her “old” hay.

Yes, I like to serve hay in small wads and replenish several times a day. I find this makes them eat more and saves most hay. The rescue however always advocates huge litter boxes with a mountain of hay in them and told me to put more and more hay in the box when they saw the picture I took. At least with the bunnies I’ve had, they lose interest v…[Read more]

Lucky bun ☺ It is often possible to eventually find a type of hay that His/Her Royal Bunniness approves of -but it can take quite some tries.
Serve hay in smallish wads, often. New hay is always more attractive than hay that’s been sitting out 15 minutes or more 🤣. You can even recycle hay by removing what hasn’t been eaten and reintroducing that…[Read more]

I saw that too ):
Unfortunately I contacted Alaskan and they told me hawaii was a different exception where they won’t allow rabbits in cabin. Im stumped and it doesn’t make sense. I have no clue what I’m going to do and I move in a month 😕

So redirection can be very important. Rabbits won’t just chew anything all the time without preference. Low pile carpet might be a chew hazard, but if you have the Timothy mats and cardboard on top, the rabbit may chew those instead of the carpet. It sometimes takes the owner to shape that behavior too, so if you notice your rabbit is chewing the…[Read more]

My rabbits dig on cardboard and there is holes in it in less than an hour, they really enjoy it, but it wouldn’t work because of that. I don’t have any newspaper like ever so I don’t think I would be able to to do that. I put seagrass toys in there cages which fall apart in about one day, so that most likely won’t work too. Timothy my sister and…[Read more]

You may want to keep the tick to be able to identify what kind it is, in case something happens.

Thanks Bam, it is so close to her eye it scares me and when I just tried to get close to it or lightly tap it she flinches. 😥 I’ll have to wait until hubby is home to hold her so I can try again

Thank you. Looks like it’s time to place another order. I’ve already have 3 bales coming their way. Going to be showering him with all kinds of hay.

It looks like a tick. If it is a tick, you should be able to remove it with apair of tweezers. Take care not to squeeze the ticks body, grab it close to the skin with the tweezers and pull straight out.
