Hi Wick & Fable!
Thank you very much for the reply and insight. I learned about the culture searching the site for answers a few weeks ago. In sharing it with the vet she felt the tests are often inconclusive and didn’t recommend it strangely. We tried switching her to azithromycin and she went into stasis immediately. (She clearly didn’t like…[Read more]

Is a culture and sensitivity test an option? Outside of this, you can also take an x-ray to see if perhaps something else is causing the discharge instead of a URI (for example, sometimes it can actually be dental-related, due to teeth roots).
I would do a warm, damp towel to soften it up and see if you can gently remove it. If your rabbit will…[Read more]

Hi all. My 8 year old female rabbit has been struggling with a upper respiratory infection aka snuffles for a couple of months. She has this intense discharge that is almost like glue when it dries. It’s all over her face. Poor girl.
Does anyone know how to safely remove this dried discharge?
(She has been treated with oflaxacin and e…[Read more]

My sister found a rabbit in the park. She warmed up pretty quickly. Lots of love goes a long way. Good luck and have fun!
On a similar note, I once found a pregnant rat in the park. She practically ran up my leg…. please take me home!! Of course I did, she was very sweet.

No experience with that vendor specifically, but I order hay either through Binkybunny (right here! Click the “Store” tab at the top of the page) or have it shipped to me regularly through Small Pet Select: smallpetselect.com … often, you can get hay cheaper through local farm stores and potentially through a local rabbit rescue.

Since we are on a deep-dive discussion into rabbit nutrition, I thought I would share this talk by a professor of nutritional sciences from the HRS conference a few years ago:

It’s pretty long, but she goes over the vitamins and minerals that are important in rabbit diets,…[Read more]

I think it’s important to look at both the percentages AND the ingredient list. Without looking at percentages, you don’t know anything about the proportions of the various ingredients.
Every bunny has a slightly different gut biome, so finding one that your bunny does well on can take some time if you have a particularly sensitive bunny. Some…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic shedding? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 11 months ago
Yes, there are no set dates. They can molt at any time. Some molt continously.

Rabbits molt every 3 months but long-furred bunnies need to be brushed every day or every other day.

Simethicone is very much safe to give at any time. https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Common_drug_dosages_for_rabbits ….
You can see here for guidance at treating/managing stasis-related symptoms at home: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Gastrointestinal_stasis#At-home_treatment

ooo okayy thank you,, but will you happen to know when the set time for the shedding might happen for the rabbits in tropical countries or is the shedding like a ‘surprise surprise’ thing? Because I do know that some rabbits shed after a season has pass especially winter,,
-
Bam replied to the topic shedding? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 11 months ago
Yes, buns will shed in any climate. Some shed all year round, others shed less often. Angora buns need to get their fur cut 3-4 times per year, but other types of buns just need brushing.

I’m gonna nit pick here, not trying to start a fight…
%s don’t necessarily mean much if the food is full of junk.
Ol’Roy dog food looks ok percentage wise, but one look at the ingredients (and the awful poops) will tell you there is no real, useable food in there.
So, just saying that quality ingredients, less fillers, is far more important…[Read more]
