Oh and also there haven’t been as many excess cecotropes today! Which I’m taking as a good sign.

Thank you both for the thoughtful replies!
After doing some research today I was also wondering about parasites and I’m going to ask the vet about fecal testing tomorrow.
Yesterday’s bloods came back with slightly elevated white blood cells and the same level of slight anaemia. Our normal vet supposed there could be some kind of infection, but…[Read more]

The creator of Wabbitwiki has started an evolving resource for rabbit owners: Vet Bill Database
You can use the “Filter” option to search for your specific location, issue(s), etc.. This can be a great way to find out what you could expect a vet visit may cost in your area, if others have submitted who are local to you. Submissions are kept…[Read more]

I’m glad you got some answers. You really did all that could be done.

Yes hides can cause issues sometimes! Sometimes they help, sometimes they hurt (especially if one buns feels cornered), so there’s a bit of experimenting that happens. I’ve found they can help in cases where one bun is getting chased a lot because it can help break up the line of sight and end the chase, but when both want to be in the hide it…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Diarrhea from transitioning to new pellets? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago
I agree it would be good to clarify if he’s having some soft poops, or true liquid diarrhea (which is an emergency).
If he’s eating hay OK, I would give no pellets at all for a bit until his tummy gets back on track. What amount of pellets are you feeding? “1 part” may still have been too much for transitioning if he’s getting a larger portion of…[Read more]

I’m so so sorry for your loss, what a shock 🙁
I’m glad you were able to get some answers, but I do agree with others that you did everything a great owner would have. I would have done the same things myself given the info you had at the time. It’s hard to know what came first in the cascade of issues he was having, but it sounds like a very…[Read more]

@DanaNM, great video! Thank you!
@Cinnimon&Ollie, do watch the video! I watched it earlier today and I loved it 😃
The lecturer doesnt advocate a pellet free diet, because a good pellet ensures that the bun actually gets all the nutrients it needs. She says a bun needs 12% protein per day. Since hay should be the bulk of the bun’s diet and hay is…[Read more]

If you’ve had bloodwork done, the vet would have seen signs of an active infection. Difficulty breathing can be related to the heart, but your vet has problably checked that already.
Rex rabbits are prone to chunkiness, which is probably due to their genetics. A chonky rabbit can have difficulty moving about and cleaning itself downstairs, which…[Read more]

I agree that megacolon came to my mind as well. Often megacolon goes along with weight loss though, so if her muscle tone and weight are good, then it may not fit the megacolon symptoms. It would be good to weigh her regularly to know for sure if she is very fluffy.
The combo of urinary incontinence could indicate something else as well. Could…[Read more]

Can you give some details on what diet changes you have tried, in addition to what current diet is?
When I hear of rabbits with chronic GI/poop issues, megacolon is my first thought: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Megacolon#Symptoms

I have a rex (I think) of about 6 pounds and 6 years old, and for a while now she has had incontinence where she pees or a combo of pee and poop, with the poop ranging from mostly normal but wet, and mushy. The amount of mess she makes can range from a few small spots to several large ones. Usually overnight, then sometimes in the morning to…[Read more]

What were the old pellets you were feeding and what pellets are you transitioning too?
If diarrhea is still occurring a few days into the new pellets, yes, I would stop giving them. Please note that true diarrhea in rabbits is considered a medical emergency: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Rabbit_poop#Diarrhea … Can you get a hold of some of the…[Read more]

My 7 month old bunny is transitioning to Timothy hay and Timothy hay pellets. First day I started with 3 parts of current pellets and 1 part new pellets. However my old pellets just ran out and I didn’t know how to transition, so I gave him about 1 part of the new pellets exclusively. He had diarrhea a few days ago and just today. I’m lost at wha…[Read more]

Okay – I’ll make sure not to add anything new.
There has been some mutual grooming since the fight, and they seem to want to be close to each other still, so I think I’ll keep going unless they start seeming cranky with each other.
Thanks for all the help!!

I’d say since they are not consistent in their positive interactions (ex. Boxing), it’s not surprising that object/hideys may still trigger some territorial aggression. Depending on the severity of the fight, it might be good to take a one day break to let tensions die down. I would also remove some of those objects from the space and not add a…[Read more]

So this morning – I brought them out at 9 to the same spot they were in yesterday – lots of space, piles of hay, their neutral toys…
There was about 10-15 min of mutual grooming right away – I was really encouraged.
Then about 20 min in, they both started hopping around, and both tried to go under a box lid I had leaned against the wall (I d…[Read more]
