Thanks for the reply. I assumed not bloat because I feel it was caused by depression over Elmer being gone (or I suppose could just be a terrible coincidence). She really does seem sad, by my perception.

I called the vet but not heard back.

Good news though-I think the meds, critical care, and attention to her are working. She started moving…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear this is happening. There are measures you can take at home to try and get a rabbit through gas-related stasis, but keep in mind if the cause is something else or if the severity is high enough, at home measures may not work: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Gastrointestinal_stasis#At-home_treatment

I think it hit her that Elmer is gone and she is depressed, but now it is probably stasis. I don’t think she ate since yesterday morning. I had Elmer’s meds so gave her some pain meds and the gut motility meds, plus a few feedings of CC and gas drops. She has pretty much just been laying in the same spot.

Do you think I should monitor or take her…[Read more]

Agree with Wick about the shots.

It might be worth a try to leave the carrier in their room with the door open so they can go in whenever they want and get used to it (unless it’s soft sided and they might chew a hole into it). You could even put their food in it at meal times. That way it will become part of their home and they should feel safer…[Read more]

    Hi everyone,

Thank you very much!! I gather from all your great advice that I over feed him – will try to give him less at a time and try a different type maybe.

    Will keep you updated.

Is getting the vaccine safe for rabbits for is there a chance of death the closest known case to me 5 and a half hours away, not in the state but when it becomes available I would want them to get it unless the chance of death is too much.

They only offer one type of policy in FL, that is it. Frustrating. Just par for the course for Florida. LOL

Yes, you can give them less. Especially if they are getting greens every day.

Here is a list of vets from Chicago’s HRS: http://www.hrschicago.org/area-vets/  … hopefully one of those may be a good fit for you.

Rabbits are selective eaters, so they will never finish all their hay — that is a reality. A few rabbits are very hay-crazy and do eat most of their hay, but the majority of rabbits will always leave some behind.  While it can be sometimes good to keep old hay out to “force” them to eat it, at a certain point you need to give them a lot more…[Read more]

I had my bunny spayed at fox valley animal hospital which is the best in my area for rabbit spays and neuters. There is only a rabbit surgeon there though not a all around rabbit vet. They are at a different vet right now which I don’t like ( at all ). I live in the Chicago land area. Does anyone know any experienced rabbit vets near me?

We’ve been to see the exotics vet today and he’s given us a few more leads.

Keiji is now on baytril once a day and we have upped his dose of painkillers. We are also doing a fecal test for EC. (And I’ve actually ordered some Panacur to start giving him anyway). I’ve also started giving him fibreplex today which will hopefully help his guts a…[Read more]

I have nationwide (NY) and it does cover spay/neuter and wellness visits. You just have to ask for it. I think we pay about 45USD a month, 250USD deductible. I think it is worth it – just the neuter itself was about 400. You want to ask them for the plan called “Whole pet with wellness plan”.

I sometimes try to do this because I want them to be less wasteful and hence would like to add more when they finish the last handful.

Thanks for the links. Pellets was a need to get them back when they were babies but know they are trained… finally. I give my rabbits 1/8 each which I thought was okay. Am I giving them too much?
