Molting leading to bare skin patches is normal, and you want to keep an eye on it to ensure the skin remains looking healthy. Fur should grow back in in a week or so. If you see scabbing, flakiness, or other signs of unhealthy skin, then we may consider mites or fungal related condition.

Hello, I was hoping to get some help.  I have a lionhead Netherland drawf mix and she is beginning to shed.  I was helping her by gently pulling her coat and noticed that she has a bald patch.  Is this a cause for concern?  Is this normal?

They both are pretty “fresh” out of their procedures, so some hormonal fluctuations are normal and likely to impact behavior as they get adjusted to their new post-fixed hormone levels.

I recommend reviewing the bonding link from my previous comment and start at the ”beginning’ after a week break of no bonding so they can “forget” the bad spat.…[Read more]

Oh I’m very sorry I forgot to fill out the background form. They are both around 6 months old and have been fixed for 1-2 months.
I think the new girl was shy and was following my boy since he knew the routine here better. Now that she is more comfortable she’s started to show dominance. I didn’t know this could happen overnight.

    the girl was b…[Read more]

It is likely that they had a very short-lived ‘baby bond’, which is also known as the false bond. A baby bond involves at least one rabbit who is young and unfixed– in this state, rabbits do not yet have the territorial/dominance/mating urges. Once the rabbit reaches sexual maturity/puberty, hormones change how rabbits react to each other. Thus…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear about your rabbit’s passing. Binky free bun.

This may be sore hocks, though not in the “traditional” location: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Sore_hocks

Unlike other animals, rabbit feet have no padding or extra cushioning aside from their fur, therefore improper flooring, improper nail length, being overweight, being sedentary,…[Read more]

I’ve been trying to look online but still unsure and here’s a little back story:

Recently we had to take one of our rabbits to the vet because she had an infection on her back foot and she had passed away due to a tumor we weren’t able to find until after and we have another rabbit that was her mate we are fighting to keep out of depre…[Read more]

I adopted a girl for my boy last Sunday. My boy is a very laidback chilled 6 month bun. The new girl is also 6 month old but was very shy and skittish at first. We started with neutral area in a2x2 pen. Surprisingly things went on very well. There wasn’t anything negative between them. That night we had them in a 2×4 pen. They didn’t groom eac…[Read more]

Don’t worry about not being able to burrito… it is an elusive technique for many experienced rabbit owners, like myself, haha. We each figure out our most comfortable methods and customize per individual rabbit too. Keep in mind that her “fighting back” for force feeding is also a great sign– she has energy!

The websites are a great resource. Eventually I did the massage and did not feel like the description of bloat thankfully. I tried the burrito and I still think I need more practice handling buns, but I can eventually get the meds and food in…I’m just glad I had everything on hand. I think it could have gone much worse.

    She seems back to…[Read more]

See here for some different syringe-feeding techniques: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Medicating_your_rabbit#Syringe_feeding … you can also look at the oral medication administration section for other techniques too.

Since the check for bloat is easy to do, I always err on the side of recommending doing the check, even if unlikely (indeed,…[Read more]

    Oh Ruby!

Wick has given you excellent advice. I’m glad she seems to be perking up! Losing Elmer has of course been stressful for her (and you).

Ok she has been in the hay box 2x and munched and pooped some.  Then drank a large amount of water. She is running around again.

The vet said to keep giving CC and meds, so I’ll at least do one more round. She is very hard to syringe feed :/

She just laid down by my computer chair, which she has never done. She is so sad about Elmer I feel so…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply. I assumed not bloat because I feel it was caused by depression over Elmer being gone (or I suppose could just be a terrible coincidence). She really does seem sad, by my perception.

I called the vet but not heard back.

Good news though-I think the meds, critical care, and attention to her are working. She started moving…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear this is happening. There are measures you can take at home to try and get a rabbit through gas-related stasis, but keep in mind if the cause is something else or if the severity is high enough, at home measures may not work: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Gastrointestinal_stasis#At-home_treatment

Highlights from the link I want to…[Read more]
