She definitely has a lot of bubbles. I’ve been giving her gas drops. The vet just said maybe liver torsion because she seemed uncomfortable/sick, yet her stomach was soft and bubbly with no GI stasis and she didn’t wanna eat. That’s why I figured she was in pain cause she went she’d want to eat then not want to. Almost like she ate and went “o…[Read more]

Hmm, yeah that is odd. Did the vet mention a specific symptom that made them suspect torsion? Intermittent food refusal and back arching makes me think of something like gas pain, which can come and go.

That’s the thing, she’s isn’t acting different personality wise. This morning she was binkying, eating, and pooping. I’m wondering if she’d be able to do that is she had liver torsion. I’m not sure how it would work. Is it an up and down type of situation or do bunnies generally stay down when they have it?

I agree, it would be better to house them both indoors, even though bonding won’t be possible. Rabbits often enjoy having a neighbor, even if they aren’t bonded, so it’s fine and encouraged for the buns to be able to see each other. Depending on where you live there are many hazards outside. The most alarming currently is RHDV2, a deadly rabbit…[Read more]

Ideally both rabbits should be kept indoors for their safety (rabbits do better indoors; being “used to” outside doesn’t mean much for domestic rabbits since they aren’t meant to be outside in the first place). As long as they are housed separately and cannot interact with each other, that is fine.

Please make sure they each have time separately…[Read more]

I think I would follow up with your normal vet as soon as you can. Emergency vets can be a lot more expensive for everything relative to a regular vet.

I’m not sure of her full history, but if you suspect a back injury I would personally want Xrays to see what was happening. Back arching can be a symptom of liver issues. Your normal vet may be…[Read more]

Good detective work! Glad she’s eating better now, and that sounds like a good plan 🙂

thanks for the advice! i think i found out what the problem was. i went and got her usual brand of lettuce (it was finally back in stock) and fresh cilantro and she ate it all immediately when i offered it to her. she ate all her salad and pellets this evening and has been eating hay all day.

she also pooped not long ago and it looks the same as…[Read more]

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had experience with Liver Torsion in bunnies?

So here’s what happened (sorry in advance for the length):

Venti was feeling pumped yesterday all morning. When I called her for breakfast she was on a bed. She isn’t supposed to be because I know she has back pain and had to buy stairs so she can get onto MY bed and…[Read more]

I completely agree with Dana, it could be a sign of gum/tongue tenderness due to some dental problem. It doesnt have to be a serious dental issue, some buns are very sensitive. I had one whose vet didnt think his tiny tiny molar spurs could be the cause of his inappetence -after 3 weeks they finally decided to give him a burr -and voila, a cpl…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonded pair still working out dominance after 6 months in the forum BONDING 2 years, 8 months ago

Hmmm, that much fur pulling isn’t normal in fully bonded pairs, I agree it sounds like there has been a bit of a hierarchy upset.  Are there any new pets, humans, or other smells in your house? Sometimes things like that can upset a bond a bit. Can you describe what you did to bond them?

Sometimes if one bun is having a medical issue that will…[Read more]

If the treat is hard, it could mean she is having some dental discomfort, but turning down the cilantro is unusual. Usually eating selectivity is the first sign of a tooth problem. I agree it also could be some GI discomfort. I think continuing to offer food she will eat and a belly rub are a good step. A nice big pile of wet salad often help…[Read more]

You could try 0.5-1 ml of simethicone baby gas drops, and a very light tummy massage. Put her down somewhere away from where she normally hangs out so she must hop to get there. Repeat every 30-40 minutes for a few hours.

Ok, so the bunny im getting is used to being outside, andi have an outdoor hutch and an indoor one, so i’m putting my bunny into the indoor hutch and cleaning out the outdoor one so there are no bunny scents. Will that work?

every morning i give pumpkin a digestive tablet from oxbow and she normally goes crazy over it and eats it right away. today when i gave her one she ran over to me and ripped it out of my hand like she always does, but then she dropped it and went to her hideout. I gave her some gas medicine and she took it, she never does that when shes sick.…[Read more]
