Ah gotcha! Of course I can’t guarantee any particular thing will work (my rabbits were fine until one day they weren’t), but if you have a method that has worked for chickens before then that should also work for the buns. I would still worry about them being face to face with a predator though with it being on the ground. Even if the predator…[Read more]

Thanks! Sorry, by chicken wire i meant hardware cloth. We have some that we put on our chicken coop (that’s why i think of it as chicken wire) that has stopped dogs/foxes before. for that hutch i would put the hardware cloth i have on the bottom so nothing could get in, i liked that particular hutch mainly because of the size.

Thank god it doesn’t involve anything else, this time it’s just underneath her chin extending towards her neck area but not quite on the neck thankfully. I’m at a loss as to how it’s happened twice other than she has managed to get a splinter twice, I guess the biopsy should rule out any other causes though to be safe. The prior one was full of…[Read more]

Chicken wire will not keep predators out, it only keeps small animals in. Coyotes and foxes can chew or rip through it easily. “Hardware cloth” is better, but determined predators can get through at as well if the hutch is not well constructed and if they work hard enough at it. Growing up a group of stray dogs knocked my hutches over, ripped them…[Read more]

I wish I could, but my mom hates mess, and already she is getting annoyed. I found one good hutch, Its called the Frisco wooden rabbit run on chewy, but i dont know if even that would be okay outside. I have some chicken wire and some wood, and i was thinking of making a custom bun hutch.

I’m glad you were able to get her in and get it removed. The larva may have been there awhile. The larval stage can last several months.

Yep, agree with LBJ10. We are learning more about EC all the time and the tests have improved, so I imagine vets are starting to reassess they way we treat for it.

I definitely recommend keeping your bunny inside until you can get something secure, as a dog crate will not protect her from predators.
As far as hutches, I’m not really sure, and for that price it may be difficult. You would probably have the best luck looking locally for something used or for a local maker.
Is there any way you can keep your…[Read more]

Hello guys, I have been looking for a outdoor hutch for my bun, because ours broke (She is currently in a large dog crate). Does anyone know of affordable hutches that protect against predators? I live in the middle of nowhere, and foxes are common where i live. The hutch would be against the house, and there’s a small chance of something trying…[Read more]

I was able to get her into the vet today and it was a bot fly larva. They got that sucker out and she seemed so much happier afterward. Thanks for the help! She hasn’t been outside in a month, so I’m not sure how a bot fly got to her.

Could you try separate bonding sessions? Perhaps some one-on-one sessions will help her get better “acquainted” with them, rather than being ganged up on by a group.

Dana made some good suggestions. Also, a little bit of nipping isn’t necessarily a bad thing as long as there is no real fighting. Sometimes you just have to let them work things out and intervene too soon. A larger area for one bunny to move out of the way when “told” will probably help with this.

If the abscess doesn’t involve any structures, then they should be able to cleanly remove it. When it involves teeth or bone, sometimes a vet will use antibiotic bead implants to help treat it internally.

Oh my! Yes, that does look concerning. A few possibilities… it could be an abscess. You mentioned a possible injury, so it’s possible a puncture wound was involved that you didn’t see initially. However, considering how “perfect” the hole looks, I will also suggest that this could be a bot fly larva or fly maggot (fly strike). There could be a…[Read more]

Hello all. My 5 yo bun has a gross lump on her lower back. She is an indoor bunny who got outdoor time everyday. Since Nov 22nd, she went to the vet and got an X-ray that showed a spinal injury where she had inflammation on her lower back. She had to be kept in a kennel to allow for limited movement since she struggled to use her back legs. the…[Read more]
