I’ve had a first aid kit together for quite a little bit of time for my buns and cats. I’m just wondering what anyone recommends! I know there are posts about it on here but they are older so I thought it would be interesting to hear from the new binkybunny members and the old members! I understand that for serious illness or injuries, this kit may give me little to no help until I see a vet. This is important to understand, I do also have a cat that I would use this kit for if he encounters any injuries. Note: I also use some of this for myself lol, I just put them in the animals kit because maybe I could use it for them one day and because it’s the best place to put my first aid items.

Also, any good finds for your first aid kit from the dollar tree? I’ll label the items I got from the dollar tree with a *.

        My Questions:

I have Hydrogen Peroxide *, I know some say dilute it. How much do I dilute it? I plan on putting this in a spray bottle.

I also have 91% Isopropyl Alcohol & 50% Isopropyl Alcohol*, which one should I keep in the animals kit? I use it for ink art so I keep them in my art supplies bins but I have a small bottle I can pour either the 91% or 50% in so I can store it in the first aid kit.

        What I have:

        • Unflavored Pediatric Electrolyte
        • Styptic Powder
        • Critical Care: Apple Banana
        • Canned 100% Pumpkin
        • 100% Petroleum Jelly *
        • Thermometer
        • Scissors, Multiple Tweezers * (Some not from Dollar Tree)
        • Small Animal Nail Clippers * (1 from Dollar tree, which works great and other from pet store)
        • Gloves *
        • Saline Spray/Drops
        • Infant Gas Relief Drop / Simethicone 20 mg
        • Systane Lubricant Eye Drops (Recommended by rescue when my rabbits eyes where dry and crusty, it worked!)
        • Iodine Tincture USP / Antiseptic (Not sure if I’d use this for animals since I haven’t seen on any lists before, was bought for me)
        • Triple Antibiotic Ointment (Off Brand Neosporin) *
        • Alcohol Pads (For when I gave injections to Sev I would wipe the vial, they are now used for me atm)
        • Medical Tape * (I bought for myself)
        • Tape Bandage * (I bought for myself)
        • Gauze Pads *
        • Different Sizes of Oral Syringes ranging from 1cc to 10cc
        • Apple Banana Baby Food / Baby Apple Sauce
        • Individually Wrapped Antibacterial Wipes (for human if hands get dirty from rabbit from something like force feeding)
        • Needles, Bag of Fluids (I was given this a while ago, this is stored somewhere else)
        • All Prescriptions that I have received in the past. I keep them for reference and if my vet says I should use them again (if they aren’t expired by then). This includes Meloxicam (oral meds after spay/pain meds ) Chlothexidiene (Topical to clean wounds, given after injections for Sev’s necrosis), Metoclopramide (Oral meds to help bun eat, for possible GI Stasis), Trimethoprim/Sulfa (oral antibiotic, for possible GI Stasis), and Baytril aka Enroflox vial (antibiotic for possible GI Stasis, was given after Sev gave me a Bruise and ripped her hair out in protest to oral meds). Thought I would add what they are

I make sure I always have my bunns basic information on a postit where it’s easy to access. I keep things like current weight, allergies, medical conditions, name, vet, phone numbers for vet/emergency contact, etc so it would be easy to tell an new vet in emergency cases.

I don’t really have a first aid kit, all I have is some Recovery powder and syringe and some simethicone. You sound very prepared!

It does sound like you’re very well prepared! The only other thing I can think of would be hand warmers/hot water bottle/snuggle safe in case of hypothermia (often occurs with bouts of stasis).

                    Hi Fluffy

I see you have a question up on the Forum now. Would you like me to delete your post from this thread?

I try to stay prepared because my one bun has had soooo many medical mishaps that are quite unusual and I really want to make sure if any of the happen again or if something more common happens I am able to treat it or help control any issue until I am able to take any of my buns to the vet. My emergency vet isn’t that great in my area, but I know when I call the on-call vet at my vet they usually recommend at home care if the problem or injury isn’t to serious (hoping I have the supplies at home). I also have organic honey which I forgot to add. My on-call vet recommend rubbing some on my bun’s gums/mouth area to help with force feeding my stubborn bun (this didn’t work for my stubborn bun but could work with my more easy going bun). I do need a rabbit safe heating pad! I’m not super concern hypothermia because I live in Florida and if my bun is really cold and I don’t have a heating pad, I could take either bun outside to warm up. I also have icepacks/frozen water bottles on hand in the freezer! I use those for our stroller walks, I have a clothe covered ice pack and the other packs I wrap with cloth. If I were t leave my bun’s alone with any ice pack, it would only be the water bottles! The ice packs (cloth and jelly filled ones) just work better for stroller rides because I can make one side of the stroller have a cold ground. So far no sign of wanting to chew them when we go on walks but I keep close watch.
Anyone know what alcohol I should keep?
Or how much to dilute the hydrogen peroxide?
